A Paul for President! You're probably right about that. While I find myself skeptically inclined toward most varieties of exotic evidence, I do remember the case of Robert Blake, who was arrested for killing his wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley. There are some reverse recordings of her phone calls posted on the net, and I heard as clear as day, "I think he's going to kill me." Nevertheless, the linguist in me knows that there are a limited number of phonemes in any language and there may be an acoustic counterpart to pareidolia, seeing organic images in diffuse phenomena like clouds, at work here. I am sure that someone has done work in this area to determine the probability of words formed in reverse from utterances in natural speech. I am just curious enough to want to look into this some more.

Interesting. Thus the Black Mass, upside down Crucifix, backwards recitation... Even something as mundane astrology and visiting seers and "fortune-tellers" are verboten. Note how TV and movies have made a cottage industry out of The Occult and "magic" themes.
