Magnetic Shift and Birds?

I happened to note the other day that a runway (Aircraft) was being re-designated by the FAA, in I think La.  The article noted "due to magnetic shift".

Since I'm a Pilot, it piqued my interest, and I found that it's occurring all over, 'the World'!

Below is a sample  Q&A at an Aviation Site.

"ORD Ready To "Rename" Runway 9R/27L To 10R/28L — Civil Aviation ...

The closer you are to the poles, the bigger the effect is from magnetic shift and the more "often" (note the quotes) runways will be redesignated. Runway re-designations are however ..."

Rather than go into very technical aspects of aviation navigation I'll just comment that there are "Magnetic Variation" factors that are applied as you navigate, IF you navigate these days (due to GPS units). They are noted on your Charts.

It appears that 'Possibly' the polar shift has increased in recent years, and my thoughts run to whales, porpoises, other sea creatures beaching, if that is the cause. But now we're seeing Birds, that Navigate much the same way, having problems.

Any body got thoughts on this?

the energy is grading up.

have you noticed how some people are 'falling apart', aging quickly, and seem to be getting crazier with the shit they say or do (politicians are a good example)?

just wait and enjoy the show.

think of trying to run 50,000 watts of power through a system that was built for 110, and the owner refuses to accept any modifications or upgrades.

lowland creatures can't survive at altitude.

Thou hast power only to act not over the result thereof. Act thou therefore without prospect of the result and without succcumbing to inaction. The mind acts like an enemy for those who do not control it...Perform your obligatory duty, because action is indeed better than inaction...Sever the ignorant doubt in your heart with the sword of self-knowledge. Observe your discipline. Arise.

I quit trying to keep count on how many times a day I tell my wife "These People Are Crazy!"

Usually I'm referring to politicians, but the Population is going that way too!

(Got to remember that ol'sayin' "Everybody is Crazy, Except You and Me. (And I'm Not sure About You!)

The magnetic north pole - the spot that compasses point to - is always wandering, and in a sort of seemingly random curlycue around the geographic north pole like the trail of a spinning top. For the past century it has been working its way north, in the northernmost extremities of Canada, evidently shifting by an inch or so every hour, heading over the Artice Circle to Russia.

But the accumulated effect, over the last few decades, is that this makes a difference to pilots and airports, who identify their runways by the relation to a magnetic compass. So Tampa Airport is changing the designation numbers of its runways to compensate for the accumulated shift. It's not building any new runway it's just changing the "names" of its existing runways so they can be accurately identified by pilots.

Since this wandering of the magnetic pole has been going on forever, I strongly doubt that it has anything to do with strange bird behavior.

Ageed. Here's a good Novel on the subject, taken to extremes ---

Polar Shift
by Clive Cussler
Published in USA Aug 2005,
448 pages.

Publication information
BOOK SUMMARY

Polar shift: It is the name for a phenomenon that may have occurred many times in the past. At the very least, it disorients birds and animals and damages electrical equipment. At its worst, it causes massive eruptions, earthquakes, and climatic changes. At its very worst, it would mean the obliteration of all living matter, and if that happens - exit Earth.....Austin, Zavala, and the rest of the NUMA Special Assignments Team certainly have faced dire situations before, but never have they encountered anything like this. This time . . . even they may be too late.
