Thanks Jethro. That little clip brought back memories. I had a 1957 Ford Fairlane 2 door hardtop. There was one in the clip only it was red and white. Mine had a black top white in the middle and a black bottom. It had a 292 T-bird Cleveland block and would haul ass. A beautiful car that I shortened up on a big maple tree in July 1967. My next car was a 1968 4 door Ford LTD with a 390 ci v-8 automatic with a 4 barrel carb. That car was really fast and could pass just about everything but a gas station. My wife had a 1964 Plymouth 2 door hardtop when we got married. Remebber those chrysler push button auto trannys? After those cars we had a growing family so we bought basic family cars. Yep, the good old days
Yes, those were the days. Guys knew how to fix those cars. Parts were available at the local car wreckers yard. They could keep an old jalopy going for years, until the nasty safety standards legislation took them off the road and built in obsolescence became the name of the game.

Yes indeed I remember those. A friend had one that we drover around in. My first car was a '61 Comet that I drove beginning in 1966. From there I bought this ---> Af ter a couple of VW bugs, my last "cool" car was a 1970 TR-6 ----> That was sold for an engagement ring two years later, and my cool car days were kaput. I just bought my second Nissan Altima, which came loaded. I still have my first one which is now 8 years old. I like the car & the company.
I recall how shocked I was when I first learned the meaning of "planned obsolescence" Talk about naive :)
Great stuff for those of us who where there and did it. (The only missing shots were some back-seat, drive-in ones.) But Mr. Seger gives us that take -

when i turned 16 and got my DL, my dad bought me a 57 chevy just like this. it had a big foot print shaped gas pedal too. ;)
This is what I was driving in the 70s: In this youtube, there is a winter meet at national speedway. I was there with my father and brothers, but my father's car isn't in the video, my brothers and I just remember it.

Reminds me of my old 74 Cougar LtdII 2 door 351 Windsor. Made in Windsor instead of Detroit. My beer drinking buddies and I painted it all black. I mean ALL black. Everything except the glass and the lights were flat black. Someone said I had Satan locked up in the trunk. Lmao. *Note to self: Do NOT search for "1974 Cougar Black" with -Safe Search Off- again...

i bet that was fun. i skipped 32 days of my senior year in HS with that tank. i always had no less than 6 of my friends with me all piled in. when the weather was nice, we'd head out to Timber Lake to swim and play. funny how my parents never noticed when i came home with a sunburn. ;)

Oddly enough it was fun. The back of the front seat, drivers side, leaned backwards. It made it difficult to see over the steering wheel. Since none of my friends had access to a car, we'd pool our resources to put $5.00 of gas in the car, which would keep us going all evening. Eventually, the floorboards gave out. I could see the road passing by, by looking down. The brake was hanging by a thread. It had to be taken off the road. My parents then bought a used Datsun which my brother hogged. I couldn't drive a standard.
i bet that was fun.

My first car was a 1968 VW Beetle.
My dad made it into a "Baja" buggy. Giant tires in back, a long vertical tail pipe, no engine cover. It was red with a black stripe.

Wow they do look similar. my dad had a 67 cougar. loved that car. I'd buy one today if I could. tail lights are hard to come by though.

Ha! After I put my Camero up a tree, I bought a '67 Beetle. The only difference bet. that year and yours was they changed the bumpers in '68. This will sound prehistoric to our younger members, but I took out the AM radio (that's how they came) and installed an FM. Not an AM/FM - that wasn't available - just an FM in dash radio. I had some fun in that bug :)

We had a frost night before. Last night didn't get as cold. Upper 40s right now. Expecting rain today. Not sure how low the snow level will go but it rarely gets down to the valley floor.
