Your Zodiac Sign May Have Changed

Astronomers have restored the original Babylonian zodiac by recalculating the dates that correspond with each sign to accommodate millennia of subtle shifts in the Earth's axis. Prepare to have your minds blown, all you people with easily blowable minds.

Here is the zodiac as the ancient Babylonians intended it—with the dates corresponding to the times of the year that the sun is actually in each constellation's "house"—according to the Minnesota Planetarium Society's Parke Kunkle:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus:* Nov. 29-Dec. 17.
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

* Discarded by the Babylonians because they wanted 12 signs per year.

I was born a Virgo, and because that's the shittiest sign in the zodiac, I have long refused to believe in astrology and forbid my loved ones from believing in it, either. (My anal retentive need to destroy an entire worldview because I do not like my role in it is, I am told, part of my Virgo nature.) If I'm really a Leo, though, who knows. Some traits: disciplined, patient, loyal, traditional, ambitious, offbeat, progressive, cautious, practical, friendly, realistic, curious, stable, funny, confident, unique, attractive, competitive and multi-talented.

They may also be rebellious, narrow-minded, cold, harsh, depressed, stubborn, secretive, aloof and over-critical. But Dillo would never be any of that...

Those things could apply to anyone.
Sometimes I am not patient, ambitious, progressive, or attractive.
On the other side I am sometimes rebellious, depressed, stubborn, and secretive.

Same here. I was born on 7/18 and always thought I was a crab.

Can you tell me about Gemini?

I did a chart recently. I tried to understand it

I'm a late in the month crab too--you just missed the cusp of Leo that brings more fire for crabs.

Crabs are more introverted than Gemini--crabs tend to be homebodies and we like that. Gemini is a social butterfly--flitting from one group to the next, prone to hundreds of associatiates but only a few close friends. The sign is ruled by Mercury so Gemini's are very talkative. However, this is still an air sign which makes them aloof--not as emotionally involved as water signs tend to be. Gemini's are more in their heads while crabs sulk around in their hearts more often. Gemini's are the most dual of all signs (twins) prone to frequent changing of the mind.

As with all signs, it is important where the planets fall into the houses. This makes reading charts very arduous for people who aren't familiar with what each house entails and wheather the planets that fall into them are in a place that is beneficial or not. Aries as an ascendant sign are lucky in that the houses are first ordered, making it easier to read the chart. The ascendant sign orders all houses while the sun sign is what people refer to in general. Cancer are the most subconscious of all the signs, responding to life through feelings and intuition. To really read a chart, one must understand the signs, houses and the planets in order to determine how the three interact to create the life lessons a person will encounter and how to best learn from them. This is why snippit style horoscopes are generally useless. : )

If you really want to learn more about it, I recommend Isabel Hickey's "Astrology: A Cosmic Science" as it is one of most readable for the layman.

I think that from your description, Gemini doesn't fit as well. I'm more introverted.

This makes reading charts very arduous for people who aren't familiar with what each house entails and wheather the planets that fall into them are in a place that is beneficial or not.

Yeah, tell me about it ;) I kept hoping I'd find statements like "If X is located at place Y, then ..." but there were no such statements.

I have a tendency to believe that there is something to this though, for no other reason than some testimonials I've read from those that aren't trying to sell anything, as well as the history of it.

This is what Isabel Hickey provides. You really would find her book fascinating if you are interested in Astrology. I also like that she includes a concise understanding of each aspect evident on the chart. I bet you could find a copy of her book on the Internet but I don't know if it is still in print. She emphasizes the spiritual perspective.....she's an old school metaphysical style instructor.
