It's not particularly cold by local standards, but it was not life affirming to spend twenty minutes this morning trying to open my car door by simultaneously pulling on the handle while trying to break the door free by whacking it with my knee. Once inside, the engine started easily enough (Praise Ford, lol) but there was stil the matter of outward visibility, which meant removing all that ice from the windows. No amount of scraping was going to accomplish this task, this called for a firmer touch. Big tonka-truck yellow combo scraper-brush in hand I set about re-creating the role of Thor in one of those goofy-ass Wagner operas, wielding my hammer against the death-grip of the ice. Ponk! I could hear it echoing off my neighbors houses. Ponk! Am I hitting it too hard, could I actually break the glass? Ponk! Damn, this seems futile. Ponk! Okay, there's a little crack. Ponk! The defroster ought to start melting some of this at some point...

My recommendation is to throw 5 gallons of boiling hot water on the windshield all it once. That'll do a number on it, and you won't need air conditioning in the summer. May I recommend a good brand of goggles? Although you might not need goggles if it is shatterproof glass, and all the pretty lines running through it will turn it into an artwork par excellance.

So that's how the weather is here love, any more questions?

It's terrible here. The roads are clogged with tourist and it takes twice as long to get to the liquor store.

Winter's the only time Florida is really habitable.
Maybe with Global Warming Cooling the summers will be less intense.

Sounds positively Palmy. Of course being in the north you don't have many, if any, Palms, but its the thought that counts.

At 10:42 it is either 31 or 34 depending upon which weather station I take the reading from. I know it is getting cool because I had to turn the heat up.

I'm thinkin' an 18" vent-free gas log set in the back seat of your car will take care of your icing problems. Three or four 20 pound propane cylinders in the trunk will power it and give you better traction. Lowe's is closing out all their fireplace stuff, so we should get you some good prices.

Of course, we'll have to replace a lot of your upholstery & headliner with sheet metal, but what the hell, I didn't buy that plasma cutter and pan & box brake for looks.

You'll have the cosiest and most romantic car in the greater Indy area. The chicks will love it.

We've officially got a level one clusterf*ck going on here now. Almost all businesses are closed, and they're yakking about Homeland Security on the TeeVee.

I think we got about an additional nine inches overnight, with sustained winds of 43 mph gusting to 54. I've got some pretty bad drifts to deal with.

TeeVee says Chicago got a lot worse.

We only got down to 19 in Cypress. Our water doesn't want to freeze cause it's full of minerals. It's so hard you can chew it.

Do you guys have like a green plastic box or something in your yards that holds your water meters? If so, you might want to cover it with a couple of straw bales tight together to insulate it.

We have cast iron lids covering submerged concrete tubes where our meters reside.

I guess that we could toss a bag of mulch on it...most of us don't have hay bales of any dimension here.

Now, where is the pipe that's frozen ? Is it your main line ? I can't even believe you evn have frozen pipes in your neck of the woods.

do you know what's unbelievable? neither of my next door neighbors' pipes froze. they didn't even drip the faucets. they covered the outside faucet heads as we did. we have no idea where the freeze is, but Bill turned off the main water line in case we have a pipe burst. it looks like we won't water til sometime late Friday when it's supposed to break 32 degrees. sick.

We had 56 inch drifts of snow in our driveway this morning.
