Title: Garbage Men Are More Important than Doctors

If the United States had no doctors, the country would still survive. If it had no garbage men, it wouldn’t survive as the same country. So which is more important?

With no doctors whatsoever some people would live longer, since quite a few people die from prescription medication errors. Others would die sooner, from needing operations or from not getting treatment for accidents. But overall, what would happen to the death rate with no doctors? I don’t know, but I suspect it wouldn’t change all that much.

Now without garbage men, what would you do with your garbage? Put it in your car and sit in line to dump it in a garbage dump? Do you really want to do that?

When I was a kid we burned it in a fifty-gallon steel can. Everyone did. I have no memory of what we did with the ashes. Did we burn everything? Probably not. I’m sure we still had garbage men, but I was so little I just don’t remember.

Garbage men make life so much easier. You put your garbage in your garbage can, put it out front or in back, and it disappears! Then you bring the can back inside. There are even garbage bags to keep the can clean. If you think about it, it’s actually an impressive feat.

When I was a kid we had two garbage cans in the kitchen. One was for paper and other burnable refuse, the other was for other garbage. We had a burn barrel outside about 75 feet from the house.

Earlier in the week, I read about how the mortality rate dropped dramatically whenever doctors went on strike.

Your postulate is fact.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

Oh for crying out loud, Turtle, are people now completely incapable of taking the trash to the waste facility or dump? It's too much for businesses and people to take care of this job themselves? This nation is toast if people can't even manage this small feat for themselves.

Yes.

Yes.

That is correct.

Mike Flaherty: Yeah, it's been there a long time. I wish I knew which corner.

Burn, compost, recycle.

One futurist has predicted that the water-based toilet will be a thing of the past as water becomes more scarce. Crap will be hauled away as garbage is now to be treated and spread as fertilizer, thus greatly reducing the demand for treated water.

You've obviously never done it.

You'll sit in line for an hour at some of them.

"If ever this vast country is brought under a single government, it will be one of the most extensive corruption, indifferent and incapable of a wholesome care over so wide a spread of surface. This will not be borne, and you will have to choose between reform and revolution. If I know the spirit of this country, the one or the other is inevitable." - Thomas Jefferson

I'm from MT where there is no stinking garbage man to come pick up your trash. Folks actually do for themselves up there. Sounds like you have been dependent upon somebody else doing for you what you should be able to do for yourself all your life Turtle. It's as bad as sucking of the government teat. Sigh.

The wait isn't that bad around here either. I've never waited more than a couple of minutes at any of them. Why don't you go to one with less traffic?

That was in L.A. and is a matter of record. Emergency Room Doctors went on Strike and, I forget now the exact number, the death rate in affected ER's went down by about 20 or 30 percent. They tried papering it over by saying criminals were more careful because the Doctors were on strike. Sigh.

When the body was first made ....

When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, "I should be boss because I control the whole body's responses and functions." The feet said, "We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go." The hands said, "We should be the boss because we do all the work and earn all the money." And so it went on and on with the heart, the lungs, and the eyes until finally the asshole spoke up. All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss.

So the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work. Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic and the brain fevered.

Eventually they all decided that the asshole should be the boss, so the motion was passed. All the other parts did all the work while the boss just sat and passed out the shit!

Moral of the story : You don't need brains to be a boss - any asshole can do.
