It's rectangular. It certainly looks man-made. It's off the coast of North Africa. It's deep underwater. And it's on Google Maps.

Could it be the ancient lost city of Atlantis?

That's what Bernie Bamford, a British aeronautical engineer, wondered after he spotted an unusual pattern of rectangles on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, The Telegraph newspaper reports. About the size of Connecticut, the pattern looks an awful lot like an aerial grid map of a city.

A section of the ocean floor off of North Africa has a curiously man-made look to it. Check the site out on Google Maps.

Atlantis experts said that the unexplained grid is located at one of the possible sites of the legendary island, which was described by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato.

According to his account, the city sank beneath the ocean after its residents made a failed effort to conquer Athens around 9000 B.C.

Dr Charles Orser, curator of historical archaeology at New York State University told The Sun that the find was fascinating and warranted further inspection.

Unless you too think that this shows a 100x80 mile city with streets about a mile wide and huge fields in between streets.

Why not a metro area of 100x80 with strips of city in 1-mile strips with fields and forest land or jungle between them?

One can look at the grid lines and contrast them with the surrounding ocean bottom. The thing that stands out when one actually looks at the evidence rather that regurgitating o'fishul attempts to explain unusual observations away is that the features recorded are not superficial lines but are sunk into the topography of the site.

Further while lines could form from Sonar Mapping, an area in which I am trained and experienced, it does not form topographical features and the irregularities of the bottom are reported with reasonable accuracy depending upon the operating frequency of the system. The higher the frequency the more detailed the map. The problem of course with high frequency mapping is that you have to use a towed transducer as the higher the frequency the shorter the range. (Which is why anti-submarine sonars operate at lower frequencies to extend the range, and then rely on digital processing to clarify the signal.) Typical operating frequencies for towed sidescan mapping sonars is around 200 KHZ - which is a compromise between range and accuracy. It's an engineering trade off.

That "city" is about 100x80 miles. 8,000 sq miles, give or take. You are intentionally ignoring the scale of this. I can see why you would ignore that, since acknowledging it would shoot down your idiotic ideas about this being atlantis or whatever the fuck you think it is.

No, I am not understating the scale YOU are making an ASSUMPTION unwarranted by the data.

You assume, because of all of the indoctrination of history and archaeology much of which was set in stone in the 19th century, that all ancient civilizations were small and primitive. That is AN ASSUMPTION which is contradicted by readily available evidence:

Only small minds are intimidated by the scale. I would simply point at the scale and suggest that it is suggestive of a very large area that has seen the hand of intelligence, intent, and a purpose which we are as yet unaware of.

However, I would expect evidence to be of no consequence to you as you have your script and you'll stick to it. After all that's what you are paid to do.

Here's something to put this all in context, so simple that even you can understand it.

I-80 is 2900 miles long. It connects Teaneck NJ to SF Cali.

Now Imagine that interstate being 2.75 miles wide. Build a city on that, along its entire length all the way across the country. That is how big your google earth image is.

NO I did not. I said that the anomaly is constructed with right angles and therefore is an artifact of intelligent construction/design. What it is exactly is as yet undetermined as the data set is incomplete. We have an anomaly and the explanation that it is a sonar mapping artifact is not congruent with known sonar signatures. And your attempt to use the scale of the artifact as somehow disproving artificiality is a Strawman Argument. Prejudices notwithstanding the data is what the data is. A canal system could show up at this scale. Guatemala, which was discovered only by Satellite Photography, is criss crossed coast to coast by an ancient canal system now overgrown by jungle. Yet it was built at time unknown by civilization unknown, and is not recorded in any surviving text.

Further the anomaly occurs in isolation with no other similar "sonar" artifacts provided as support of that hypothesis. The anomaly disrupts the bottom topography which therefore is a datum contrary to the "sonar" hypothesis. Therefore the sonar artifact hypothesis is not proved and the evidence suggests that it is not a valid explanation of the observed data. I am not ruling it out I am simply saying that based upon the observed data it is unsupported as a hypothesis which thus diminishes it's possibility of being a valid explanation.

And my argument, despite the needles, was founded upon logic, data, and a chain of reasoning tying the two together. Thus your attempt to categorize it with the misleading label is nothing more than a personal attack unsupported by any evidence or sound reasoning and thus is nothing more than Argumentum Ad Hominem Troll.

I still recall the Shark I sighted off of the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. That, pardon my french, was the biggest motherfucking Shark I have ever seen. While the bulk of it was under the water the dorsal fin and tail fin which were sticking above the ocean surface, and this is just an estimate, were at least 25 feet apart. That implies a shark of at least 35 to 40 feet in length. There have been unconfirmed reports by Florida Fishermen of sharks longer than their fishing boats which are typically about 42 feet. So, we are still short of knowing it all (by a long ways).

Notice the right angled layout of the canals. Conventional mainstream Archaeology attributes the canals to the Maya which raises more questions than it answers as the canal system, which has now been verified by on the ground teams, is so extensive and complex as to have taken likely several hundred years to construct - at a minimum.

Just because there are canals on this planet does not mean that your OP shows canals, or anything else that is man made (other than sonar returns), much less show canals that are about a mile wide if the scaling is correct.

In refutation I simply provided a satellite photograph showing them and an article which spoke of the ongoing scientific investigation and mapping of the canal system which you said did not exist.

I stand corrected. However, it is admittedly very rare, and as the picture shows it occurs on a relatively small scale. Generally, standing by my earlier contention, modified to reflect the counter evidenc, right angles very rarely occur in nature and are generally, when observed, the result of intelligent intent and construction.

Maybe they built their metropolis in strips, the "roads" being their buildings with open fields between them.

It would be more attractive than modern cities all crowded up.

I like the subject. The evidence isn't strong enough yet but there is enough reason for more research. We may discover the antediluvian world had a history beyond anything we can imagine.

It is a modern vanity that modern man has been around such a short time and that science has only arisen once in the West. I see no reason to believe that.

Almost nothing is really new. We see this over and over.

I think it's something of a holdover from the old Christian teachings about a young-earth creation, going back only 5500 years. It somehow still stifles historical and scientific imagination.

The past of mankind may be much wilder than imagined.

It also drives the Darwinists bonkers because it upsets all of their theories and timelines. If you push anatomically modern man much further into the past it means that a lot of the monkeys they argue were human predecessors were, well, monkeys.

I think we already have evidence that suggests both - a wilder history, and one or more prior technologically advanced cultures.

While Lamesteam science in the West wants to discount it there is a lot in the Indian Vedas which describes aircraft and even nuclear weapons. That was even acceded to by Robert Oppenheimer at the first nuclear test. The exact quote was:

"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

Which is a paraphrase of a quote from the Bhagavad Gita:

The Physicist J.B.S. Haldane is credited with the quote:

Robert Thompson and Michael Cremo confounded the Archaeologic Community with their book "Forbidden Archaeology" wherein using evidence and research already on record showed that there was a strong case for a much greater antiquity for the rise of anatomically modern man. To date Cremo and Thompson stand unrefuted.

Prof. Robert Schoch has shown that the Sphinx, and its enclosure, can only have suffered the extreme water erosion which they have been subjected to if it was built before 8,000 B.C. which is when the Giza Plateau went from a wet climate to desert. Which is at least 5,000 years before lamestream Egyptology says it was built.

Christopher Dunn has done a lot of work showing that the level of precision in the manufacture of the monuments of Giza can really only be explained if one assumes that the builders had powered machine tools.

Lots of intriguing evidence and the lamestream is slowly being forced, kicking and screaming all the way, to acknowledge it.

The more I look at it the more I wonder if it was a canal system. Of course that's a speculation clearly labeled as such. The most we can say at this point is that it appears to be artificial i.e., constructed.

Yes well I wonder myself if the Giant's Causeway is actually natural. I was there in August '07, my head had hard time accepting it was natural. I believe there are similar formations on the opposite shore in the Mull of Kintyre.

Only having heard reference to it but never having seen it, I looked up some photos of it, and it is an impressive geologic formation. It is likely a natural formation after looking it over. However, the same type of Basaltic Columns were used at another location in a clearly constructed structure. Located in the South Pacific on the island of Pohnpei is the structure named Nan Madol. It is a huge structure/city that was constructed out of the same type of behemoth basalt columns.

It's interesting to look at. There is one thing I found to be quite interesting, is if you look at it closely, you can see some lines in it that bisect the center of that area.

I'm really interested in the Lake Vostok thing right now, mostly because it might bear out some very bizarre wildlife.

Well probably. That was me trying to find an Irish angle to the Theory of Extreme Human Antiquity. lol Official/mainstream archaeology supposes that Ireland was one of the last places on Earth to be inhabited.. it would be nice to prove them wrong. So far though, no one I believe has found anything predating the Milesian megaliths here.
