My neighbor next door. Iraqi refugee. His family, all 5 of them, drawing Social Security. They get $1820.00 a month in Food Stamps, and another $750.00 a month in cash help. Their rent, utilities, and cable bill is all paid for by the state.
Do you know what they're doing with all that money? Saving to buy a house, and sending money back home.
The wife, even though she is drawing Social Security, is going to school, and working part time. The one child is special needs, and so he gets to go to a special school. The other goes to public school. The oldest, who was a shiftless lay about, moved out on his own. The father, who suffered a stroke, is having all of his medical covered by the state, and it isn't cheap.
So, when I hear this guy wondering what is going on in California, I would like to tell him, it's not just California.
I know all of this first hand, because last summer when they moved in, they needed a lot of help. Help that their sponsors and social workers weren't providing. We were their chauffeur for a while, because it seemed like the neighborly thing to do. Until the rest of the Iraqi community came out of the wood work, and I started to see a pattern of who we had imported into our country via the refugee program.
Saddam's Thugs, one of which is a retired Colonel lives in my city. My neighbor? Was one of many drivers for their military elite. His family's name? Al Tikriti. Same as Saddam's.
Yet... here they are, in America. Living on your tax dollars and living the good life. Well at least a better life than what they were living in Iraq.
If we are at war with a country, the last thing we should be doing is taking in refugees FROM the country we've invaded.
