PATRIOT ACT CLEARS ITS HOUSE SPEED-BUMP.... Last week, the House Republican leadership brought up the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, assuming it would quickly clear the chamber. It didn't go well -- a contingent of Republicans balked and the bill fell short of the two-thirds majority it needed at the time. Late yesterday, the House GOP had more success. The House on Monday voted to reauthorize and extend through Dec. 8 three ways in which Congress expanded the Federal Bureau of Investigation's counterterrorism powers after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Last week, an effort to extend these provisions of the so-called Patriot Act and a related intelligence law failed to pass after falling just short of the two-thirds' majority needed under a special rule. On Monday, however, the bill was able to pass with only a simple majority -- and it did so, 275 to 144. Looking at the roll call, 27 Republicans broke party ranks and opposed the measure, and 65 Democrats did the opposite. In general, most Republicans supported Patriot Act reauthorization, and most Democrats opposed it. This is nearly identical to last week's vote totals, but this time, only a simple majority was needed for passage. There was, incidentally, an interesting motion to recommit from House Democrats. Every Member of Congress takes an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. While Members of Congress are all united in their commitment to protect our country against its enemies, they should be equally united to uphold the Constitution. Today, Democrats offered a motion to recommit on legislation to extend expiring provisions of the PATRIOT Act to ensure that PATRIOT Act powers are not used to violate the Constitutional freedoms and protections guaranteed to all Americans. The motion included two parts: No Constitutional shortcuts. When investigating American citizens, the government must comply with the Constitution, even in national security investigations Challenging unconstitutional action. If a citizen challenges the government's use of PATRIOT Act power in a court of law, the case must be expedited to ensure the individual's rights are upheld. A total of two House Republicans -- Texas' Ron Paul and North Carolina's Walter Jones -- voted for this, while 234 did not.

Disappointing, especially when those Reps who voted for it are simply voicing their constituents wishes. Any suggestions as to how to change the minds of these no counts, government workers, military families and erstwhile government benefit sponges?

Washington was engaged in warfare. We are engaged in futile government bashing. Trying to change the system from within is to play by their rules and will be futile. The Founding fathers tried that and it did not work, they FINALLY took up the musket and sword.
BUT, only after the Crown dispatched forces to subdue them by force.

Playing within the system is welcomed by the system. They hold all the cards, they make the rules. Playing the futility game is exactly what the system wants, dance to their tune.
That is a more telling vote than the other one.
Tough women come from New York, sweet women from Texas, prissy women from Southern California, but we NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WOMEN have fire & ice in our blood. We can ride 4-wheelers, be a princess, throw a left hook, pack heat, hunt with the men, bake a cake, love with passion, and if we have an opinion, you know you're going to hear it!! In a just world every one who voted against it would be removed from office. That is a vote that is clearly contrary to their given oath.

Playing the futility game is exactly what the system wants, dance to their tune. Exactly so! We have been aware of and have read hundreds of thousands and hundreds ofthousands of replies on this forum alone. Not one of them has done anything to stop the constant assult on our liberty. Every avenue of destruction is being used against us and many even on here refuse to accept the fact nothing will change going to the polls and helping keep the fantasy alive and well. Most don't understand the system is rigged against the masses. Voting for the lesser of two evils is what most on here love to do. Talk is cheap. There are a lot of paper tigers on here with their tail between their legs. Talk only serves to give feedback to those who want to destroy this nation. Why is that so hard to understand? A lot of what is posted is garbage. It is insanely disgusting!
I post this often, looking for a response. An intelligent, considered response, and never receive one, never. Both "parties" offered Ike top spot in their `1952 presidential campaign. He "accepted" the republican offer and the democrats forced Stevenson to run a losing campaign against Ike. Yet we have people here that are thinly veiled republicans or democrats. How or why is impossible to comprehend.

tell me what you have done. Are you demanding I tell you? That's the way you came across. I spend most of my time circulating videos, some of them, you tube videos and trying to inform voters about the shenanigans in government hoping they will see the light and become true patriots. I would say that the majority on these forums just like to hear themselves talk. As you well know, because I've made you aware several times, many on here are more concerned with things like who the hell won on dancing with the stars. That concern does nothing to help restore this nation. In fact, that is exactly what TPTB are hoping the helpless people are engaged in. Some very very important threads hardly get responses. I won't ask you the same quwstion because I know you have a full plate running this forum.
the problem is that you come off as very degrading & dismissive of others. broadbrushing posters who you dont even know. in reality passing round videos as a remedy to tyranny could be mocked vociferously. how would you like that?

I agree, but that is in short supply everywhere. My opinion? They can’t/won’t admit they have ignored the obvious. That ONE event, the 1952 offer of running for the presidency from both parties, SHOULD be sufficient for voters to see what was taking place. How is it possible that 60 years plus later we still think we have a two party system? Either a total lack of knowledge of our own history or the refusal to accept what is fact. And we wonder how we got here from there? Pretty obvious to me.
