I'm so sorry to hear this news of your friend. Here's a link with ten more links to alternative treatments, plus a personal story:

This is a devastating diagnosis as far as longevity, but I'm sure they told her the bad news upfront. Sad. I'm thinking alternatives aren't an option to be used in conjunction with chemo, so she has 24 hours to make a decision. It's one or the other, not that I know of any other.

I found this after reading some of what X-15 posted related to Dr. Kelley's Program.

One place to begin is the web site of Dr. Lorraine Day.

Not having had cancer I cannot vouch from personal experience, but frankly Chemo is, in the long run, ineffective and destroys a person's immune system. It is by definition poison.

I took care of a chemo patient, my mother, for five years. I have seen what Chemo does to a person. In most cases it perhaps slows the cancer temporarily but at the expense of destroying the immune system. So, the solution is more and more drugs, and because the chemo also destroys nerve cells you have the onset of Peripheral Neuropathy, phantom nerve pain in the extremities, making the patient's life more and more miserable. No, chemo is ineffective, and when patients do get well the M.D.'s really have no clue why. They attribute it to the chemo, but there is no hard evidence to support that. It amounts to scientific wishful thinking - and profits for big Pharma.

I was told when my father was going through colon cancer that the chemo was to kill the cancer to the point of almost killing the patient, too. Didn't work in my fathers' case.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer today..

I'm very sorry to hear about that Christine. It may sound nihilistic, but your friend should forego chemo and arrange for palliative care for when the disease becomes too unmanageable at home. This disease does not have a good prognosis, no matter what, so why not spend his/her remaining time with friends and family, rather than be ill with chemo or radiation just so the docs can say, "we did all we could."

I want either less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it. Ashleigh Brilliant

Time to say goodbye, I'm afraid.

I know one person who was diagnosed with PC in his late 20's. Two years later he's still alive, although he no longer has any kidney function and is in decline.

It's probably the worst type of cancer to get, and there's damn little medicine can do about it.

How about sodium bicarbonate?

Not sure what the procedure is, but hey, I think I'd try drinking the stuff in this case.

From what I heard on the radio it is about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon dissolved in water. Taken twice a day - morning and night.

I do no know how effective it is, but I know chemo is mostly ineffective, expensive, and makes what little life you might have left miserable. No thanks.

Didn't work in my fathers' case.

I'm sorry to hear that. The reality is that Chemo is over sold because it is profitable. There have been multiple lines of research that seemed to bear fruit, but they have been buried, along with a lot of patients, because they were not profitable for Big Pharma.

Big Pharma is not in the business of making people well. They are in the business of selling pharmaceuticals. The more they sell, the more they make. It is really quite simple. Just as there is no profit in sane for Psychiatrists, and big pharma, there is no profit in well. The profit is in endless treatment which requires more and more pharmaceuticals.

My relative did not have neurological problems while on chemo. He did have some nausea and tiredness, but not neurological problems.

And his cancer was in completely remission after a year and half of treatment. They could not find any cancer cells in his blood six months after treatment ended. The usual is less than 2% cancer cells, so he was better off than most with his form of cancer. Though, it was a much more easily treatable form of cancer.

Got it. Some patients do get well. Just enough to continue market and sell "product". However, I would suggest that those who get well do so despite the chemo not because of it.

I hardly ever drink a HFSC soda anymore, but that Pepsi Throwback is killer.

I buy those when I can to encourage Pepsi to make more. Only soda I drink now is Sierra Mist, it is totally natural now. It is like Sun Chips, they are marketing them as a natural product. All Pepsi products of course.

has anyone heard of a promising alternative treatment?

I understand cancer requires an acidic body PH to grow, and that consuming some baking soda is therefore a good way to combat it.

It's also my understanding that everyone gets cancer, perhaps as many as 5 or 6 times in their lives on average. But in the vast majority of cases, the body's immune system takes care of it without any indication of a problem. The people who "get cancer" are those, as the theory goes, have a compromised immune system that allowed it to progress and grow into something noticible and dangerous.

The solution then is not so much to try to kill the cancer as much as it is to promote the immune system. Stick to organic foods, avoid processed meats like cold cuts and hot dogs. Vegetables & similar should be eaten raw or minimally cooked (warmed) to preserve nutrition and enzymes. For that matter cut down on any processed foods at all as much as can be done over a long term basis.. Cut out the soda due to the acid, and learn to like drinking water. Also get daily doses of sunshine as Vitamin D is good for the immune system.

Detoxing is good also, either with steam/hot baths or anything to promote perspiration (not hard exercise as maintaining strength is important with cancer).

Oh, and I think there's something about apricot seeds that some have been busted by the FDA/FTC for promoting as anti-cancer, so that may hold some promise. A web search affirms my memory there.

Those points come to mind.

Chemo is nasty stuff, and I think it can alter personalities in extreme cases. I once had someone tell me that his mom got it and from the day she went in, she was never the same again. But maybe age plays a role and younger people would fare better.

Is it that far along where it needs to be done now? I would encourage anyone considering it to really reviewth pros and cons, and also research the alternative remedies with whatever time there is to do so.

Best wishes for your friend, Chrissy.

Apricot seeds have worked for many to cure cancer. It all depends on how far advanced the cancer is as to whether it will work to save her life her or not. For cancer patients it does require a lot of them to be effective. Google it for more info. I know I would try apricot seeds if I had cancer. Heck, I think I am even going to try them without cancer to hopefully never get it to start with.

I don't buy any Pepsi products otherwise.

I'll bet you do and don't know it. You would be surprised who makes what. Remember Frito/Lay is owned by Pepsi.

And yes, I know that Sierra Mist is all natural now too.

Says it is made with real sugar but it does also so natural flavors and yes who knows what that is. Probably could call Pepsico and find out.

Pancreatic cancer has a rate of 4% survival five years after diagnosis.

She should focus on quality of life in the time remaining.

It will be hard for her and those around her to accept. Initially, people refuse to accept, go for massive chemo and such. Later, they accept it.

I am surprised no one mentioned Dr. Nick Gonzalez (http://www.dr-gonzalez.com/index.htm). He implements Dr. Kelley's work and has great results with pancreatic cancer patients. I interviewed and wrote an article about him 10 years ago. Suzanne Somers wrote about him in her latest book, Knockout.

It is best not to do chemo or radiation therapy and Dr. Gonzalez's therapy at the same time. Dr. G is one of our medical heroes!
