Farm Wars

By now you’ve heard how President Obama and his Monsanto Administration have plowed through approvals of three more genetically engineered products, including GE alfalfa.  Well, here’s something else you should know:

To produce its Round-Up Ready Alfalfa seeds, Monsanto partnered with a company called Forage Genetics International, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Land O’Lakes dairy co-op. That’s right, Land O’Lakes stands to make a fortune from polluting our food supply with untested and unlabeled GMOs.

To protest, you could sign one of the many petitions going around that will likely just be ignored.  But there’s another way to show your disapproval of genetically engineered Round-Up Ready Alfalfa:  Boycott all Land O’Lakes products — its butter, cheese, eggs, speads, margarine, seasonings, creams, cocoa and cappuccino mixes, sour cream and milk.  All of them.

You have the power to economically punish Land O’Lakes — the owner of Forage Genetics, Monsanto’s partner in crime — for its role in polluting the food chain with untested and unlabeled GMOs, increasing the use of toxic glyphosate herbicide, and potentially destroying the organic beef and dairy feed market by loudly refusing to support Land O’Lakes with your dollars.

Tell all your friends to go to all the supermarkets in their area and let the check-out clerks know that they’re boycotting Land O’Lakes products until they are out of the GMO business, loud enough for other shoppers to hear.  And next, stop by the store manager’s desk and tell him about the boycott.

Send Land O’Lakes and other companies a clear message:  HAY you — We’re FED UP with GMOs in our food supply!

And to make sure Land O’Lakes knows why its sales are down, contact its president and CEO Chris Policinski and let him know you won’t be buying Land O’Lakes products anymore because you don’t want genetically engineered food or animal feed:

I generally don't either unless it is on sale. Now I will not buy it at all.

well it is easier here in CA since we are a dairy state as well. Not that we are really associated with dairy but they do encourage you to buy real CA cheese.

Cabot is better if they sell it locally. I know Grocery Outlet is in some markets in Texas and they sell it there. Also Trader Joe's if you have one handy. For a little more you can buy organic at Whole Foods.

Similar here - the Tillamook Valley Creamery makes great cheeses and they have branched out to butter. In fact I have a couple pounds of their butter in the fridge right now.

That's disappointing. I have some of their stuff.
Land O Lakes in popular in Florida because we have a city called Land O Lakes, and people think it's based there. It's not.
GMO stuff is poping up everywhere.

We have to punish these companies in the one way they will pay attention - in the wallet. There are plenty of alternatives to their products that are at least as good. I mentioned Cabot, which is a family owned Co-op, if you can buy their products or look for local dairies that produce butter. Lots of options.

I fear Land O'Lakes is no longer in existance. It has been taken over by Monsanto and its subsidiary, Forage Genetics, and L O'L is no longer the owner of Forage Genetics or anything else. Monsanto is just using the Land O'Lakes good name for obvious reasons.

This is my opinion and not based on anything other than my suspicious mind, and my knowledge of the corporate takeovers of our precious privately owned farms.

Not buying Land O'Lakes products anymore is a futile gesture as it will not put a dent in the Monsanto monopoly.

I want either less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it. Ashleigh Brilliant

P.S. If I am correct, we can no longer trust our favourite brands, or those labeled as organic. They've got us by the short hairs. This opens a whole new can of worms unleashed by monster Monsanto. I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

Possibly, but even if it is a boycott of pin pricks it is better that just rolling over.

I can't boycott them because I never have bought anything from them and never will since they use partially hydrogenated oils. I stay away from that stuff like it is the plague.

Why boycott LOL when the competition is all GM oils? The only thing left is LOL whipped butter and butter/olive oil products. We absolutely will not buy GM soy oil, corn oil or canola oil.

We absolutely will not buy GM soy oil, corn oil or canola oil.

And neither will I. Generally I buy Olive Oil and Grapeseed Oil (Grapeseed Oil withstands the heat needed for stir frying without smoking better than Olive Oil).

Otherwise I use butter - real butter preferably RBST free. Organic when the budget permits or I get a good buy.

if at all possible, buy RAW cheese rather than the homogenized, pasteurized dead stuff. raw milk and cream too, if you can get it. they are soooo much fresher tasting.

butter/olive oil products

I love butter and use it as much as I can. Extra virgin olive oil is also good for you. Yeah, I think butter is good for you as long as you don't go hog wild with it.
