Researchers from Tel Aviv University said they are developing a medication that can be used as a nasal spray and protect against Alzheimer's disease, the most common cause of dementia among older people. 1diggdigg Scientists claim to have developed a novel way to protect people against Alzheimer's disease--a nasally delivered vaccine. Researchers from Tel Aviv University said they are developing a medication that can be used as a nasal spray and protect against Alzheimer's disease, the most common cause of dementia among older people. Experts from the Department of Neurology at the University of Tel Aviv, Israel, have said that as well as showing promises to protect against Alzheimer's, the new nasal spray could also be used to vaccinate people against strokes that are related to this memory robbing illness, according to MedIndia.com. Breakthrough in treating brain damage and cure Alzheimer's The new vaccine would repair vascular [pertaining to blood vessels] damage in brain, which causes Alzheimer's disease, by triggering the body's immune system [complex network of specialized cells and organs that work together to defend the body against attacks by ] , said the research team. And in addition to its prophylactic effect, the vaccine could potentially work even when Alzheimer's symptoms are already present. Experts modified influenza drug As part of a drug was previously tested against influenza, the expert team was able to induce an immune response against the protein beta amyloid, accumulation of which in the brain triggers Alzheimer's disease, in animal biological models. "Using part of a drug that was previously tested as an influenza drug, we've managed to successfully induce an immune response against amyloid proteins in the blood vessels," said Dr. Dan Frenkel, of the Tel Aviv University's Department of Neurobiology, who collaborated on this project with Prof. Howard L. Weiner of Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. "In early pre-clinical studies, we've found it can prevent both brain tissue damage and restore cognitive impairment," he added How the modified drug works? According to the Tel Aviv Universitys researchers, modifying a vaccine technology owned by the multinational drug company Glaxo Smith Kline, their new therapeutic approach activates a natural mechanism in our bodies that fights against vascular damage in the brain. They say the modified vaccine activates macrophages, which are large proteins in the immune system that destroys pathogens. The researchers say when the altered vaccine activates large numbers of these macrophages, they eliminate the accumulation of waxy amyloid proteins in our brains vascular system. Hopes are high to treat Alzheimer's disease Researchers hope that the breakthrough could lead to both develop a long-sought vaccine to cure mental decline of people with Alzheimer's disease, and to repair cerebrovascular damage. It appears that this could be the case, says Dr. Frenkel. Weve found a way to use the immune response stimulated by this drug to prevent hemorrhagic strokes which lead to permanent brain damage, he says. The researchers reported on this new technology recently in the journal 'Neurobiology of Aging.'

From Tel Aviv A vaccine NO THANKS!
I want either less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it. Ashleigh Brilliant
