Lod, If you are asking if it is mandated, or an actual law, that anyone sign up for Medicare, no. There is no requirement that any Citizen volunteer into any government program. BTW, that includes Social Security. Thanks to the public school system, 99 percent of the "sheeple" don't realize when they volunteer into one of these programs, the relinquish some of their Constitutional rights, ie: convert their rights into "privileges", which are subject to revocation.

I would encourage you to think it through. You only get one chance to sign up for Part B and if you do not you're screwed under the current system. I agree it is not optimal, but unless you are willing, and able, to self insure it is a hollow gesture and very possibly one that could, if something unfortunate happens, beggar you. If you have a retiree plan I would check with them and the odds are that they will require you to participate in Medicare Part B in order to maintain your retiree plan after age 65 - that is pretty standard any more.

That is for Medicare Part C the Prescription Drug Plan. And they penalize you if you don't sign up as soon as you become eligible.

Medicare Part B is the one you get one chance for at the time that you sign up for your SS benefit check. If you don't sign up for it then that's it. Too bad.

When I tried for SS at age 62, I was told that I had too much earned income to qualify.

Now if my brother and I cash rent the farm land, instead of going on the halves with our tenants, that will magically become unearned income.

Our tax laws are beyond insane.

Last year I learned that bad debts to relatives are not a deductible event.

That is because they were written by the insane.

However, there is a method to their madness. The very upper tier has a lot of escape and avoidance routes whereas it keeps the middle and working class from being able to accumulate generational wealth that is passed down. The apparent anomalies such as a Bill Gates exist because they were allowed to build their wealth. And the Forbes 400 is disinformation. The wealthiest of all do not even show up on it. The insider trading laws and such exist to take down those, such as a Michael Millkin, who have not been invited or allowed into the upper tier.
