8 Foods Rich in Iodine

Iodine is an essential trace mineral crucial in the functioning of the thyroid gland, an organ that stores the minerals needed for the synthesis of our thyroid hormones. It is important to get adequate amounts of iodine in your diet to ensure the proper functioning of the this vital gland which controls much of our metabolism, detoxification, growth and development.

Research has shown that a lack of iodine foods in your diet may lead to enlargement of the thyroid gland, lethargy, fatigue, weakness of the immune system, slow metabolism, autism, weight gain and possibly even mental states such as anxiety and depression.

The good news is that there are many popular foods with iodine, all of which are easy to incorporate into your daily diet.

The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for iodine is 150 micrograms daily for everybody over the age of 14. The RDA for children ages 1-8 is 90/mcg every day, ages 9-13 is 120/mcg every day. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended that you get 290/mcg every day.

Ok, so i see its available on the internet but we dont need it anyway, & it can kill us. So, apparently i misunderstood the importance of the pill. Which is probably why no ordinary retail stores carry it.

Almost all natural health stores carried it, pharmacies carried it, and it used to be widely available on Amazon and other Internet outlets. Thing is, people are panicking and buying it all up.

As far as it killing you, that's only if you have an allergy to iodine, or you have existing thyroid problems.

We all need iodine in our diets, thing is, the pills saturate the thyroid due to the amount of iodine available in them. When facing a nuclear disaster, that's what you want to do in order to prevent the thyroid from taking in the radioactive form of iodine which is in the air.

My first course of action would be to try to find some kelp and perhaps some potassium chelate. Natures Way is a good brand which is supposed to be as pure as you can get and of high quality.

If you've already loaded up on kelp and potassium, there should be no need for the potassium iodide. I'm not sure how long it takes to load up on iodide via the kelp though, so if you haven't yet found some and started taking it, if you can find potassium iodide it might be an idea to start taking it this weekend.

In terms of the potassium, it's an essential nutrient and is reported to cause cells to pump out toxins which can be eliminated from the body.

I'm not a doctor, so these are just some common sense observations I've made by reading up on it a bit. Natural iodide is better I think, but in an emergency where there IS radioactive iodide in the air, I'd say the KI pills are the only feasible immediate solution.
