Jim Berkland predicts earthquakes…accurately.

While Berkland has scored many direct hits with earthquake predictions—they fall within his self-described "seismec window"—his greatest claim to fame was his accurate prediction of the powerful 1989 temblor that rocked San Fransisco four days before it occurred.

Now the earthquake prognosticator admits he's worried about the prospects of a strong quake hitting the West Coast of the US sometime during March 2011, particularly around March 19th.

Yikes, I sure hope this guy is wrong this time.

He has been chillingly accurate. He is the best earthquake forecaster out there.

Today's the 19th.

Let's get ready to rumble!

I listened to him on the radio Monday night, and what he was saying in the hour that he was on was that the chances of an earthquake are elevated - not certain. The way his forecasting works is that he takes into account tidal stresses, primarily from the moon but the sun and major planets as well, then looks at the times they are likely to put the earth under the greatest physical stress. It is during those times that the chance of having a major quake goes way up.
