The radiation leaking from the nuclear power plants in Japan have raised new awareness in many countries around the world, and that's a very good thing because awareness brings change, and positive change keeps mankind moving forward. An important point to remember is that all people and every animal must find a way to detox from these global pollutants bridging manmade "borders and constructs." Timid dogs. Rescued?

Greyhounds are wonderful. She's not timid around people, but she is extremely xenophobic to all other breeds of dog outside of her own.

Yes, I rescued her about 11 years ago after she didn't perform up to snuff in her puppy runs. She came up from a track in Caliente. She's almost 13 and we are battling chronic kidney disease, so I prepare her food for her twice a day and she gets a regime of vitamins to keep her healthy. Since the kidneys are the natural detoxification system in the body, a little help with that would be beneficial I think.

That's still somewhat unusual tho. Was she more timid when you first got her and has slowly over time gotten less timid?

I hope she gets better!! Greyhounds are the best in terms of temperament.

Nope, she's always been a people lover. When you adopt, you order the traits you would like in your pet and I ordered an extroverted hound who liked to travel. : ) I've been around a lot of greyhounds because I foster mom them too. Many are very much people dogs and others are timid.

Thank you for your kind words and sharing your story, it's never easy. Her kidney disease is chronic, so it will not get better. However, her condition has not worsened since I began to prepare her food and took her off of the dog pharma diet that she didn't like. Her condition had worsened when she was on that food, which was why I opted to go holistic. Since I've been making her grub, she's had a good appetite. It's made with sushi rice so it has a large water content to keep her hydrated.

She is already older than the average for the breed. She still enjoys her walks, although we no longer go on hikes or for long spells. So, I figure I must be doing something right. She's lost a few pounds and I've had a hard time getting them back on her....I put heavy whipping cream and molasses in her food for more calories.

I can't even wrap my brain around having to put her down just yet...... Your fortunate to have not had loss in your family. I lost my mom to a drunk driver in 2002 and that was rough. Currently, my dad is battling cancer. I had him on some great protein drinks, helped him go from 110 to 135 when the doctors said he wouldn't gain at his age. Unfortunately, he refuses to drink them now that the weight is back on and the proteins were extremely beneficial. He's stubborn.

Bet she loves that.

My dad distrusts doctors, all of them, and the medical profession too. But he's very much into holistic health stuff though.

She has taken to turning her nose up to it if I forget the molasses....lol

My dad mistrusts too, but he is the farthest thing from holistic health you could find. These days the major part of his diet is candy and nuts. He will not take any vitamins or even listen to suggestions about it.....

He refuses to go back to the doctor to even evaluate his condition after they made an error last time he was in the hospital. He is allergic to several drugs, a little genetic gift he passed on to me, and the drug they gave him made him extremely sick. He seems to be quite adamant about his determination not to go back to the doctor.
