The Making of the CAF DMWT Commercial (GREAT low-level footage):

If my one experience with commercial making is any indication, that little spot took all day to film.

Auto Zone commercial guys approached us about renting our driveway and garage for a day to film a commercial. For $700 easy, what could I say but OK?

They rolled in around 8am on Saturday morning with at least 20 people, a tricked-out Camaro, and an outstanding catering truck which we were invited to use.

By 5:30 that evening, they had all the footage needed, and we had more food than needed to complete the day.

I've never looked at any film production the same way since.

I'm just wondering how much it cost the Texas Hwy Dept. to make that little commercial? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to put up signs saying $500.00 fine for littering.

I want either less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it. Ashleigh Brilliant

Yes, but then you wouldn't get that big honking bomber barreling down the highway chasing the redneck litterbug. Everything is overdone in Texas ;-)

The chow, all day long, from breakfast to dinner, was top-notch.

I just remembered the one bad thing - I asked the HNIC to send us a director's copy of the commercial, and that has yet to happen...

I've never looked at any film production the same way since.

Ugh. Me either. About 15 or so years ago, my wife talked me into appearing in a training film for the company she works for. It took a week to film a 40 minute video.

Fortunately, the gentle healing powers of time have erased most of the memories of that wasted week from my mind. I ran across it a few months ago and watched a couple minutes of it. They must've put a bunch of goop in my hair, it's light brown, but in the video looked Elvis' or something.

Edit: You can just think of me as the Clark Gable of cargo containers. :P

Godfrey Smith: Mike, I wouldn't worry. Prosperity is just around the corner.
Mike Flaherty: Yeah, it's been there a long time. I wish I knew which corner.

The down time's the killer.

If they would have scantily clad cocktail waitresses taking drink orders, it would be near bearable.

But just slightly so.

Sorry, Sir Lod, it was a done deal a few years back, all in the name of sponsorship dollars: fuel is a bitch when your P-51 Mustang burns it at the rate of 50+ gallons per hour.
