I've read musings about such a movie, but did not know it was even being filmed.
The release date for part 1 is April 15 2011. The trailer looks pretty good.
Atlas Shrugged Part1

I've read the book, and it will be interesting to see how closely the movie follows it. I'm guessing the John Galt speech will be in part 2.

They'll have to update it a lot or else it'll be a joke.

How can anyone not laugh at some guy named Midas Mulligan?

They have given us into the hand of new unhappy lords. Lords without anger and honor, who dare not carry their swords. They fight by shuffling papers; they have bright dead alien eyes; They look at our labor and laughter as a tired man looks at flies. - G.K. Chesterton

The people making the movie are very serious about it. It's supposed to follow the book exactly.

I can't wait to see it.

A 50-page speech by John Galt?

Whipping the novel into movie shape is a logistic nightmare.

Looking at the trailer it's in a modern setting but still deals with a railroad, Rearden Metal, etc.
I'm guessing there wont be a "typing pool" at Taggart Transcontinental though.

Why not? Ayn Rand and her alter ego, Dagne Taggart, were not feminists, per se. Objectivism was the philosophy and it was not gender specific.

Why not?

Because the story is updated for modern times.
