War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: Libyan Rebels Meet With Western Allies The Western allies who pushed for intervention against Muammar GaddafiMuammar Gaddafi are meeting this week with representatives of Libyan rebels. The military units enforcing a no fly zone has added low-flying aircraft that can take out tanks, armored cars and troop columns, including the tank-killing Warthog and gunships. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the airstrikes would continue and hinted that the allies may begin arming the rebels. Each attack by Gaddafi has been met by a stretching of the U.N. resolution that sent the warplanes into Libya. The addition of the "flying gun" gives the soon-to-be NATO-led forces the ability to take out Gaddafi's forces from closer up, reducing if not ruling out civilian casualties. Most of Libya's armor has already been destroyed, though some artillery remains, the Guardian reported. The new aircraft could be helpful in driving Gaddafi's forces from Sirte, his hometown. Rebels have been unable to force them out so far. The Warthog provides close ground support at speeds as slow as 200 mph (320 clicks), and is designed to be able to withstand considerable damage. In London, the major Western powers met Monday with representatives of some Libyans and plan to meet with others. "War is a continuation of politics by other means," as Clausewitz described. These meetings could lead to the departure of Gaddafi. Franco Fratinni, Italy's foreign minister, said exile for Gaddafi would be on the table. Fratinni said the Libyan might be accepted by certain African countries, Al Jazeera reported. Turkey is involved in direct talks with Gaddafi's regime, and it said yesterday that the dictator's departure would have to be part of any ceasefire. For those who believe the only criticism of Obama is coming from anti-war groups, U.S. Sen. John McCain is pushing to send in ground troops and anything else necessary. He said he didn't want to see Gaddafi after ten years, noting Saddam Hussein had lasted that long when only a no fly zone was imposed.
Poster Comment: "U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the airstrikes would continue and hinted that the allies may begin arming the rebels. Each attack by Gaddafi has been met by a stretching of the U.N. resolution that sent the warplanes into Libya." When the US and its allies begin arming one side in a conflict -i.e.- Al Queda during the Russia-Afghan war, it seems we end up fighting against that fully armed side in a prolonged sequel to the original conflict. We might have known that the UN resolution would be s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d to its limit, if it has a limit to be stretched. War Hawk John McCain will keep on pushing for ground troops and "anything else" until a media frenzy takes up the call
