Home : News : 12-year-old genius takes aim as disproving Einstein's Theory of Relativity

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. - What were you doing when you were 12 years old?

Playing video games? Dreaming of winning a Heisman Trophy? Maybe starting to show a little interest in a significant other?

It’s probably safe to say you weren’t taking on Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.

Well, that’s what 12-year-old Jake Barnet, of Hamilton County, Indiana, is proposing. Jake has become somewhat of an Internet star thanks to YouTube videos of his ideas about mathematics and physics, which his mom shoots and posts online.

In one of the most recent videos, Jake discusses Einstein’s Theory of relativity, explaining in the description why he might have a different theory:

“My initial perception from this is that light does have mass,” Jake writes. “Obviously, energy coming out of a system where light is emitted could not be conserved otherwise. You can correct me later if I change my mind, but for the moment this is my perception.”

Jake has a mild form of autism, according to http://Time.com, and he also has an I.Q. of 170. He taught himself calculus, algebra and geometry in two weeks and graduated high school at the age of eight. He has been attending college-level physics classes since then.

The channel with all of his videos has thousands of hits.

I wish this kid could expose the Federal Reserve Chairman, Bernanke and his co- conspirators - they're still living and their crimes are certainly "RELATIVE" !

"What is required is the abolition of the Federal Reserve and its insidious control over the economic life of America. Instead of tax bills, the bankers and their hirelings need to be served with court summons. The bankers should be charged with financial crimes against humanity, not tax avoidance. It really doesn't take a genius to see the theory of relativity is bogus. But hey, I am glad the kid isn't doing like most people who learn things and just believe everything they are told without ever even thinking that they might not be learning the truth.

It's not that the theory of relativity is bogus, it's that it could well be incomplete.

He's apparently unaware of the fact scientists have known for a long time that light exhibits properties of both waves AND particles.

Perceptually, it makes no sense. Why would it matter how fast one travels in terms of time speeding up or slowing down? Yet it does.

Out of curiousity, what part of it do you find to be total BS?

Honestly, I might be wrong about it not taking a genius to see the theory of relativity is wrong. So many people do not think on their own and just parrot what they have "learned" in school and they think they are "educated" by doing so. No, they aren't educated, they are indoctrinated into a belief system. Most "scientists" today are also not geniuses, just indoctrinated zombies like most of the population is. I give credit to this boy to actually think on his own, if only more people would do as him the elite could not rule us as they do now.

And that kid isn't the only genius to have tried.

Obviously, this kid doesn't realize that an object doesn't lose mass by giving off light.

And what many scientists don't realize or accept is that light is but a vibration of a yet little understood substance which for lack of a better word, is called space-time.

It has been called the aether in the past, and although it was supposedly disproven to exist, I doubt it was disproven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Many people questioned the theory that the Earth was flat at one time, and according to the PTB of that day none of them were able to "prove" it wasn't flat. Just because the majority of people believe something is true, hardly makes it true.

Many people questioned what Galieo and Copernicus said as well, and insisted that the world was flat because that is what they were taught. That, and they just couldn't understand why people didn't fall off the earth if it was shaped like a ball.

Just because the majority of people believe something is true, hardly makes it true.

The majority of people can't understand the abstract concepts inherent in the theory of relativity. So, they fall back on common man thinking and simply say it's impossible, since they can't understand it.

If it were impossible, then many things we take for granted today wouldn't exist. GPS navigation is one of those things.

From Introduction to general relativity

One particular set of observations is related to eminently useful practical applications, namely to satellite navigation systems such as the Global Positioning System that are used both for precise positioning and timekeeping. Such systems rely on two sets of atomic clocks: clocks aboard satellites orbiting the Earth, and reference clocks stationed on the Earth's surface. General relativity predicts that these two sets of clocks should tick at slightly different rates, due to their different motions (an effect already predicted by special relativity) and their different positions within the Earth's gravitational field. In order to ensure the system's accuracy, the satellite clocks are either slowed down by a relativistic factor, or that same factor is made part of the evaluation algorithm. In turn, tests of the system's accuracy (especially the very thorough measurements that are part of the definition of universal coordinated time) are testament to the validity of the relativistic predictions.[31]

A number of other tests have probed the validity of various versions of the equivalence principle; strictly speaking, all measurements of gravitational time dilation are tests of the weak version of that principle, not of general relativity itself. So far, general relativity has passed all observational tests.[32]

Actually, yes, I was taking on Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity around that age. I was (was?) a total nerd with a Commodore Vic-20 computer. I wrote programs to explore Relativity. My goal was to find a loophole to allow FTL travel.

I predict Jake Barnet will fail, but wish him luck trying.

My goal was to find a loophole to allow FTL travel.

I also have the suspicion that FTL travel is possible. I view the speed of light as simply the propagation velocity of energy through the medium of space-time. You can compare the speed of light to the speed a wave would travel through water by dropping a pebble into it, where instead of water we're talking about space-time.

The wave of water can only travel at a certain velocity, whereas a boat which propels that water with a propeller can move MUCH faster than the wave could.

Hence, since a physical object differs from light itself as it is not simply a propagation of energy through space-time, it could actually propel itself through that medium faster than a wave of light could travel.

Well I've accomplished that much so far at least.

My understanding was not that the object couldn't travel faster but that they expand as they get faster and it was this expansion that was limiting.

While at the same time, the amount of energy required to accelerate would approach infinity as one got closer to the speed of light.

Who knows what would really happen till someone tries it.

I figure if we were to build a ship that could accelerate at one earth gravity for about a year the ship would be at the speed of light by the end of that time. It would be during the last month or so relavistic effects would be noticed, and it'd become clear whether or not the acceleration was decreasing.

However, since time dilates in proportion to the velocity, perhaps not a whole year would go by on the ship till it reached actual light speed. In fact, it could be that as one reached apparent light speed, time would have slowed down so much the velocity might APPEAR to be faster than light.

It has to do with energy.
The faster an object moves the more energy it takes to accelerate faster. Kind of like wind resistance, but with the fabric of space-time instead of air.
To get a pebble to 100% light speed would require an infinite amount of energy.

If I remember correctly, if there were some way to jump the light barrier an objects kinetic energy would decrease the faster it went past light speed. Up to about 1.4X light speed, past that an objects energy would be less than inertial energy (that's probably a bad thing).

The above is based on vague recollections of computer simulations I ran 30 years ago.

That is the part of relativity that I think might be wrong. We won't know for sure until someone builds a ship capable of constant acceleration at 1G for a period of one year.

Once you get to the speed of light squared then you're pure energy according to E=mC2.

Actually, that's not quite true. E=mc2 is simply an equation which shows how much energy is available in a given mass in terms of MKS units.

Thus, if you have 1 kilogram of mass, you would have c2 joules of energy available in that mass if you could convert the entire mass to energy.

Since light travels at 299,792,458 meters per second, and the square of that is 89,875,517,873,681,764 (or 89.9 x 1015), then you'd have that many joules of energy for a 1 kilogram object.

E=mC2 gives the inertial (rest) energy. There is another Einstein formula for kinetic (velocity) energy.

There is also a theoretical particle called the tachyon which exists only at velocities greater than "c".

As well other thoughts on getting around the speed of light limitations, although I suspect but cannot prove that it is not a limit, would be to change the vibrational state of matter shifting it into an out of phase condition with the physical universe somewhere between this universe and one of the parallel ones and thus sidestepping collisions with matter in the extant universe. That also suggests a possibility of change vector orientation and thus effectively shortening the distance between two points in this universe by transiting through another at an angle to this one.

That's all well and good, but I think a ship at 1G acceleration traveling out into the cosmos for a one year mission would reveal a LOT about what we need to know about star travel.

[1 year mission if robotic]
[4 year mission if manned (need to slow down, turn around, and come back]

That in no way proves the absurd theory of relativity.

The majority of people can't understand the abstract concepts inherent in the theory of relativity. So, they fall back on common man thinking and simply say it's impossible, since they can't understand it.

Here you are wrong. The majority of people accept the theory of relativity. NONE understand it, they just ACCEPT it.

Parroting what others have said is not understanding anything or knowing anything.

Although we may already have the technology.

The late Mr. Northrop, founder of Northrop Aviation, is supposed to have commented to a small group at a dinner party "we have the technology but they won't let us go". Who "they" is remains unknown.

Another more recent was the former head of the "Skunk Works" making a similar comment to his son while he was in the hospital. That we already have the technology but that it is buried deep in "black" world super secrecy.

I think it obvious it can be done. All of those visitors who stop by aren't getting here on their skateboards.

So you believe in aliens despite not ever seeing them? You trust others accounts on this matter? You don't trust the government about anything, but you trust that we have been visited by aliens because of unprovable rumors? Everyone should think for themselves like this boy is doing. Don't believe anything just because you have heard it, even if it comes from people you trust, they could be sincerely wrong.

The flash was not an explosion. Also, if you REALLY look at it, the lights were alternating flashes as they descended, and it appears that there were THREE spheres, with one stopping when it came down into a cloud, whereas the other two continued their descent.

You need to have an open mind to this sort of thing if you're going to get a clear idea of what you're looking at. If you already have decided something is impossible before you truly look at it, then no matter what you see, it will be a hoax in your eyes.

As well the flash of light is NOT characteristic - and a green tinge is not common in natural phenomena as it is a very narrow spectral band. For example Green Stars are so rare, in part because of the way our eyes work, as to be notable in the unusual circumstance where one is identified. I don't pretend to know what the flash is, or the falling stuff, but I can say it does not look like a natural phenomena.

UFO's are not a matter of belief they are simply a matter of being willing to look at what is there rather than trying to explain it away.

I contacted one of my science friends for his opinion. (so much for not having an open mind) I wasn't sure but he does speak Portuguese fluently. Anyway, here is part of what he had to say and a related video.

I have lived in Brazil and speak Portuguese fluently. The anchors are speaking about this video that is in YouTube and is attracting the attention of people in Sao Paulo. My impression is that it is an UFO, and that it is not Brazilian made. I don't know if is made by the USA or other country, but in that case, what is the device doing in Sao Paulo state? They don't need secret airships to scrutinize Brazil. They have satellites for doing that without being exposed to public video cameras.

In this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9_Z8QIkUAg&feature=related you can see a better image, with higher contrast and image stabilization, and if you pause the video when the lights appears inside the cloud you'll notice three clear light sources. How the UFO disappeared or what are those two lights falling, I don't know. I am not an alien so I cannot imagine what process was going there.

Time dilation and universal speed limit have been tested with particle accelerators.

Thing is about the "universal speed limit" is that those particles were accelerated by magnets operating at our rest speed. So in relation to the velocity of the force exerted by a stationary source, they could only go so fast.

However, it is my theory that if the particles could propel themselves on their own, they could surpass that "speed limit".

How do we even know how fast the solar system is traveling through space, or how fast the galaxy is moving through the Universe? What if we are traveling faster than light and don't even know it?

To expand on that idea, wouldn't light travel slower in relation to earth when traveling in our direction of travel than in the other direction, if we are in fact moving through space-time at some incredible speed, which we are?

Of course it doesn't. That said, it all depends on the reference point from which you wish to measure the velocity. If you are traveling at X speed, you should still be able to accelerate to c * X, and still accelerate past that to whatever speed you wished, since the reference point will always be your ship.

No it has not been completely tested. It is quite impossible to do so since the theory itself violates many firmly established laws of physics that no one argues with, including Einstein. He himself realized there was a big problem with the theory, but hey, when you are being celebrated as he was for coming up with it, he was very reluctant to make a big deal about it not being right, even though it does seem to explain observations in a single frame.

Sorry but that is false.
The theory has been completely tested and agrees with observation to high precision. It does not violate firmly established laws of physics, the theory IS the firmly established law of physics.
The theory can not, and was not intended, to describe quantum level physics. For that there are several competing theorys. They do not compete against Relativity.

When the theory was first published, many scientists disagreed because it disagreed with many popular ideas at the time. Those ideas were found to be false and Relativity was found to be true.

Not quite.
Scientists used atomic clocks on aircraft to observe relativistic time dilation. The results matched relativity to high accuracy.
Louis Essen thought the experiment was inaccurate. He was wrong.
Other experements have been done that have verified time dilation.

Could you post a link to that Ricky?

RELATIVITY - Joke or Swindle?

Did you read the link I posted for you which indicates GPS satellites HAVE to account for time dilation otherwise they would not function?

Yes I did. However having satellite clocks running at the same speed as ground base clocks is not required for GPS to function correctly. That is a myth of how GPS works. The receiver only needs to know where the satellites are located and when it received each signal to determine its location. Each satellite's location is broadcast to the receiver. The time measured on a receiver is the time difference between each signal it receives using its own local clock. No local clock synchronization with the satellite clock is needed. Using the location data, broadcast by each satellite, and the time difference between received signals from each satellite, calculations can be made to determine location. Any slowing of the satellite clock is not necessary to be able to pinpoint a location to within 1cm. I personally don't know of any GPS receiver that is even close to being that accurate anyway.

My problems with it are numerous. First of all I do not believe the speed of light is a constant. Also reciprocal time dilation is really utter nonsense that should have been rejected by any scientist worth anything.

I may be wrong, but I am not going to accept a theory no matter how many people agree with it if it makes no sense to me. That would be accepting it on blind faith, and to me that is not science at all.

What does one of the world’s foremost experts on GPS have to say about relativity theory and the Global Positioning System?

If the guy is trying to refute the workings of the GPS system with bible quotes, he's not a scientist, he's a whackjob.

What led you to that belief?

Also reciprocal time dilation is really utter nonsense that should have been rejected by any scientist worth anything.

Why?

You believe in reciprocal time dilation? Seriously?

RELATIVITY - Joke or Swindle?

Who knows Ricky, you might be right. There are people who think relativity is a proven theory, and others who don't see it as such. For an opposing viewpoint, you can read the info at the link below;

What is the experimental basis of Special Relativity?

I've heard of time dilation but not "reciprocal time dilation". Could you give me a definition?
