By chance do you use a .45-70?
I use a 30-30 and sometimes a Mauser. Sho' would like to trade up on my lever action though. 45-70 has a nice kick.
Have you tried the Hornady LEVERevolution ammo in your 30-30?? It should give it true 200-yd capability
Honestly, I can't make a Marlin or a Winchester shoot like that. I'd like to get a single shot 30-30 with a longer barrel. They chamber up better and are more accurate than lever guns, but then you don't need the LEVERevolution ammo. I usually don't reach out more than 50-75 yards. But yes, that Hornady ammunition is good stuff. In my hands though the shooting is only marginally better than with jacketed soft nose. I'd really like to retire my old Mauser and buy modern bolt action. It would be nice to own a NEW Mauser. They are making them again, but they're out of my league.

Mausers are the bomb, I've got my 1944 Mauser and two post-war Yugo Mausers still in the arsenal cosmoline. If you're tired of putting wear 'n tear on your Mauser, I'd suggest looking at a Tikka, they're affordable, accurate, and well-built. If I were in the market for a new rifle I'd get one myself.
