Great question. You're right about the importance of a proper acid-base scenario in our bodies. Testing, however, is a bit tricky as it requires not a simple blood test, ie. a poke in a lazy vein, but rather it requires an arterial puncture. We usually do this in the wrist where you take your pulse. Still, it is a tricky spot and needs to be done under special circumstances, not just a regular lab. And it is of course affected by the likes of your respiratory status, function of your kidneys etc. Though we do this test in the ICU and in hospital under specific circumstances we can't routinely do this in community labs. dave... Body acidity/alkalinity tests seem to be seldom included when lab tests are ordered but literature says an acid condition is not good for health. Are patients expected to do their own testing and what's the best way to do this and how often? Any testing kits/strips you recommend?
Is blood pH a good measure and if so would it be a good idea to have blood donor stations to provide donors this? I got iron content this way.
