iPhone has been secretly tracking and storing everywhere you go.

Read that again.

Your iPhone has been secretly tracking and storing everywhere you go.

That's right. Apple built this feature into your iPhone without telling you. By doing so, Apple made it possible for anyone who gets ahold of your iPhone or Mac (or any other device synced with either) to figure out exactly where you were when--including police, the government, anyone who sues you, private investigators, and anyone who steals your iPhone.

That is outrageous.

If any other company had done this, America's privacy zealots would be demanding the CEO's resignation. There would be threats. There would be lawsuits. There would, at the very least, be incessant demands for the company to acknowledge the behavior, explain it, and apologize for it.

And yet, because the company is Apple, there have been none of those things.

Instead, Apple fans like have suggested that the secret feature is a "bug." And there have been mainstream media stories suggesting that it must be some kind of "mistake."

Privacy expert Marc Rotenberg, the Executive Director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington DC, says Apple's silence on this issue is startling. He suspects the company is debating whether and how to fix the problem, rather than just acknowledging and apologizing for it. (To date, Apple hasn't even acknowledged it.)

In the accompanying video, Rotenberg also explains exactly what Apple's location-tracking does, why it's a concern, and how it is different from what Google and other companies do.

anyone who sues you

bullshit. how would a plantiff get access to, or even if they stole it, find how to see where youve been? they wouldnt. neither would the cops or 'private eyes', unless they had a warrant or unless you were suspected of something.

It doesn't look that way to me. From the first link in the OP:

Security researchers at the Where 2.0 conference have discovered that your iPhone keeps track of everywhere you go. All the time. The Guardian has the story.

This info is not transmitted to Apple but it stays on your phone and is synced to your computer and new devices. This means that someone who stole your computer or your phone could access this file and see everywhere you've been.

This is obviously a huge privacy violation and it's not clear why Apple would do such a thing. The researchers haven't been able to find a similar "feature" on Android.

From The Guardian has the story

...Security researchers have discovered that Apple's iPhone keeps track of where you go – and saves every detail of it to a secret file on the device which is then copied to the owner's computer when the two are synchronised.

/snip/

Emphasis mine.

that still has nothing whatsoever to do with the cops, & especially nothing to do with "someone who sues you" in a civil lawsuit.

Since when do the pigs care about the constitution? There was already an article here showing the pigs downloading info off of cellphones. It was posted not too long ago, maybe 3-4 days ago.

And when it comes to civil law, I dont know much about this. I wonder if this could be used in the discovery process? Or maybe the lawsuit angle is a red herring since this was evidently kept a secret. Lawyers weren't meant to find out about this.

A plantiff may *try* to subpeana such a thing but are unlikely to get it unless they can prove relevance to the financial dispute. very unlikely, as i see it.

like most topics, wtf kind of dope would 'hand over their cellphone' upon demand to a traffic cop? insanity. Cops dont follow the CON'stution, but that doesnt mean they have access to your iphone or laptop either.

No argument there. That's the nature of castrated sheep.
