Awesome.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

"Do you have these Asian Carp in your lake? "

Not really, just funnin' :-)

I live on Table Rock Lake, SW Mo./Ark.

We do have Carp, huge Carp! But if these suckers get started here we're in real trouble. Tons of Boats use the lake for rec. and fishing.

"You don't eat the carp though, do ya? "

There are a lot of jokes about eating Carp, like cooking it on a plank of cedar, then throw the carp away and eat the plank! But I had carp once at a local Ramada Inn Seafood Buffet once that surprised me totally.

A Black Chef there had cooked a bunch of "fish steaks" with no other name on them. I ate one and loved it. Asked him what Kind of fish it was and he told me Carp.

Changed my mind on it for sure. It was excellant. Must have been about a 20 pound fish alive.

"I've never eaten carp, but I've been told, often, that it's a junk fish. Where I grew up in WNY they came out of shit rivers and waters like the Barge Canal."

Mostly IS the case. I spent 5 yrs on the East side of Ark. (near the Miss.) north of Memphis. There were a lot of streams and rivers ran into the Miss. that weren't sewers. Lot of Catfish and Carp in them.

Also a LOT of Water Mocs. That's what I went after. Killed some 6 footers.

Anyway, I'm on TableRock Lake now, crystal clear water. The bottom feeders here are extremely good; catfish, paddlefish, carp. Really no mud-vein in them. Better than Pond Raised.

I've heard that carp is tough though, not the case with those?

Have you ever eaten junk carp? If so, how would you describe the flavor, either generically or against other fish if any would apply, although I'm guessing not. I can't imagine carp tasting like flounder, Rainbows, or sunfish. LOL

The mental flavor that I have in my mind is of a very tough whitefish that was a big old fish and on the verge of going bad prior to when it was cooked.

It was not tough. At least the way this black chef made it. It was broiled with a lite smoked taste. Very mild and a texture closer to a filet mignon than anything, barely a fish taste. I don't know how hard it would be to duplicate. That's the only carp I've eaten, so I'd be careful trying anybody elses. I've not tried catching and cooking any myself, though they're plentiful in our clear lake.

I'm not fond of any strong tasting fish. Prefer Lobster and Crab. And Catfish.
