Moscow Motorcyclist's Crazy High-Speed Commute

A 25-mile commute through Russian traffic and a powerful two-wheeled samurai sword, and you get a video showing the "quick" way to work. Sometimes this two-wheeler even becomes a one-wheeler as rare empty stretches of road disappear when the nose goes skyward.

Hang On !!

Well, there's that safety factor.

Slowly and safely out there, Critter.

That sounds GORGEOUS. I had mine in HS...got it when I was 17. It was a Harley 1973 1000 sportster with a raked out front and high king/queen seat and three FABULOUS murals painted on the tank...man, I wish I'd saved that bike!! It was when AMF owned Harley and that bike would vibrate the fillings out of your teeth and it ALWAYS dripped oil. It was a bear to do long distance...but I was young and it didn't matter...all I wanted to do was ride. I remember a TV show called "Then came Bronson"...I always wanted to take a year or so off and do nothing but travel the country...almost did right after HS...almost!

No, that one was a Honda. Never had a Triumph but a guy I used to ride with had one. I have owned three motorcycles. The Honda, the Harley Electra Glide and a Kawasaki 550. I loved all of 'em.

Remember when the Honda came out with the 750 four cylinder...that was considered a HUGE bike. I have a friend that rides an old 47 Indian. Those old bikes are GREAT...I don't know if you do any of the rallies, but you get to see some really beautiful vintage bikes. Anything on 2 wheels is great. Hey, who knows, I may end up with a Gold Wing also...my wife wants something more "comfortable",... go figure! :?)

Thanks. My daughter is going to inherit this one.

I was at the HD dealer the other day, looking at new Road Kings, but you know what, that just isn't me. I like my old clunker. I like breaking down where ever I go, and having to mend things on the the side of the road, with rudimentary hand tools, good old fashioned yankee ingenuity, and a roll of baling wire. :)

I have a 27 yo son that will most likely end up with mine. I'd love to do a road trip with him...but he LOVES speed, and that can get you killed on a bike. So, call me a hypocrite, I hope he waits till he gets this "speed" thing out of his system before he gets his own. Critter, I got to tell ya...it's about that breaking down thing...everybody as something that floats their boat, but I HATE breaking down...and have been in the "great middle of nowhere", many times, where it would have sucked large! These newer bikes are really a completely different animal than the older bikes...VERY reliable and should go 100-150k miles with care. I know my limitations...I'm not a good mechanic...but I'd sure like you along on the next trip, because it sounds like you are! So, consider yourself officially invited!

Do you ever do any of the rallies?

We get together with a group from an M-109 forum. We are meeting in Pismo Beach this week. Will be about 30 bikes and about 40 people. Last year a bunch came over from Australia, some from Canada, and they all got together down in Los Vegas. Hotel set parking aside for the bikes on the 5th floor of the parking garage. Do you know what happens to car alarms when 30 bikes go by? They should have put them on the ground floor.

We also go up to Reno from Street Vibrations. Nice ride over the hill.

Here is our friend's M-109.

am a member of the Iron Butt Association (over 1,000 miles in 24 hours)

I salute you.

Personally, I was prone to monkey butt on my Duel-Sport, but I've never ridden my Hog any distance. I just moved and haven't moved my bike yet, so I'll be riding about 225 miles (after diving the same distance) to get it. The saddle on my HD is a lot more comfortable than the narrow, thin one on the Duel, so wish me luck.

I'll be keeping the speedo in the 2 digit range too.

Flint...if I'm doing any distance....anything over 300-400 miles...I ALWAYS use an Airhawk seat cushion on the seat. These things are UNBELIEVABLE...it makes all the difference in the world. I spent 18 hours in the saddle the day I did the 1,000 miles...it really wasn't all that bad, but you have to be where you can average about 70 mph because you have to stop every 150 miles or so for a stretch and gas. I did it in Oct last year...if I had it to do over I would have waited for warmer nights and longer days...say like July through September. Go luck on your trip and watch out for the "cagers" they're ALL out to "get you".

It's interesting you say that, as that was my impression the first time viewing it. Thanks to the pause button, we can see his route is more like this:

He starts out on Moreland Ave and I-20, East of downtown. The first set of traffic signs are for Capital Ave., Turner Field, 75/85 North & South. He runs up the connector and then onto 75N.

You must be sort of local, I'm out west of town, south of Carrollton.
