NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) — Sen. Charles Schumer is calling for better rail security now that the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound has turned up plans to attack trains in the U.S. “Anyone, even a member of al-Qaida could purchase a train ticket and board an Amtrak train without so much as a question asked,” Schumer said. “So that’s why I’m calling for the creation of an Amtrak no ride list. That would take the secure flight program and apply it to Amtrak trains.” Schumer said Sunday that he will push for the creation of a “do not ride” list for Amtrak. The list would be similar to the no-fly list that keeps those suspected of terrorism from flying into or out of the United States. Notes and computer materials seized from bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan last Sunday showed bin Laden wanted to strike American cities again and discussed ways to attack trains. Schumer is calling for increased funding for rail security in light of the new intelligence. The New York Democrat says the U.S. must remain vigilant in protecting itself from future attacks.

What're they gonna do with a train, fly it into a skyscraper? If they really wanted to terrorize this country, all they'd have to do is walk into any crowded mall and just start shooting.

How convenient it was that they "found" all those things. And from a man who has been dead for most of the last decade. Very convenient indeed. A cynical person might think that that stuff was planted (assuming it even exists). But of course that couldn't be because the government would never, ever lie to us.

If I posted what I thought Schumer and most politicians "needed" I would probably get a visit from the government's goon squad. But I will say this and I would say it in front of any of them--America would be much better off if the vast majority of them had never been born.

The US Congress, which was mostly indifferent to the fate of America's passenger trains, suddenly springs into action when asked, not to upgrade the rail service, but to make it even less congenial.

Didn't you see Silver Streak back in 1976? Al-Quesadilla has surely resurrected this film on old VHS tapes and has used it as a training film. If a kinky-haired jew and a free-basing nigga can do this kind of damage with a train, just think what a legion of well-trained, hard-core jihadists can do!! The objectives of the TSA have never been to provide for safe travel but to discourage travel and impose new and greater restrictions upon the liberties and free movement of the citizenry. Nothing could be clearer. Security could well be enhanced through less degrading means. The degradation and required submission of the traveler is part of the conditioning process. Along with millions of others. Sheesh, how much additional subsidy will this new "no ride" list cost the lot of us? We've already thrown 40 billion at the train for crying out loud. Last time I rode Amtrac it took me six hours to get to where I could drive in two and it cost 50 times more to get there!! Had others not been traveling with lots of beer on for a birthday party, I would have skipped it.

I stopped riding Amtrak when they did away with the smoking car. Screw them and their tabacco nazi 'tude. I can see respecting others rights to not have to endure it in the general areas of the train, but to do it as a blanket left me off at the last stop. I used to love riding the Coast Starlighter when I was in the service and would take it in preference to flying even though it was 24 hours versus 2 to get to where I was going. The ride itself was fun, but not anymore, and that is part of the intent. Gut liddle sssitissens do not trafel mit out schtate aproofal.
