Heaven is a 'fairy story' says Stephen Hawking

Physicist Stephen Hawking has dismissed religion once again as he deemed heaven a "fairy story" aimed at appeasing those afraid of death.

The author of 1988 international best-seller "A Brief History of Time" said in an interview with The Guardian that his views were partly influenced by his battle with motor neuron disease.

"I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I'm not afraid of death, but I'm in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first," he told the newspaper in an interview published on Monday.

"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."

Hawking's stance on religion has hardened since the publishing of his seminal work.

Previously, he wrote that the laws of physics meant it was simply not necessary to believe that God had intervened in the Big Bang.

He wrote in A Brief History ... "If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason -- for then we should know the mind of God."

In his 2010 book, "The Grand Design" he said the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting another star other than the Sun helped deconstruct the view of the father of physics Isaac Newton that the universe could not have arisen out of chaos but was created by God.

"That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions -- the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings," he writes.

Since 1974, the scientist has worked on marrying the two cornerstones of modern physics -- Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which concerns gravity and large-scale phenomena, and quantum theory, which covers subatomic particles.

The notion that religion (moral law) is to "control the masses" is propogated by the very elite tyrants who we oppose & who seek to destroy goodness,& liberty

What sort of people are the hard core Bush and Cheney supporters? Buddhists?

Which sort of folk want to anhilate those "muzzies" over "there" before they come here?

The Psychs who run the manipulation show and cultural destruction operations for the psychotic banksters absolutely hate religion - much as a Vampire shown a cross.

Well that's a leap. You could say that satanists hate christians, and yeah, the reverse is true.

However, religion is a drug. It deludes one's mind with things that the REAL mind controllers wish, in order to yank that person around with deep rooted fear if they don't do as they're told to do by those in "authority".

In the not too distant past, people were tortured to death if they did not "believe" properly.

That is a work of evil, not one of good.

Honestly, I don't know a thing.

But I have a few beliefs...

1. This is all an illusion.

2. What we as humans perceive to be God and the Devil are of the same thing.

3. Our Creator, our Father has more intelligence and love for us than we can begin to imagine...

That's enough for now

I believe God is closer than that. WE are ALL part of God, and that is why it is such an evil thing to corrupt or hurt another being, and NOT just humans, as ALL living beings are ALSO part of God.

God is not evil by nature, so God is not the Devil. There IS no devil, but there IS evil. And that is the flip side of everything, there is a positive and a negative. God represents a positive constructive force, whereas evil represents a negative destructive force. Yet, without both, there could not be life, since destruction clears the way for construction many times each second in the form of cell life and death for instance.

So evil is not the destructive force of God, evil is just a human trait which creates harmful energy which feeds on itself to grow stronger.

It's much easier to think that is true, rather than to view the universe as a balancing act between a Good God and a Bad Devil, where for everything to work out, it has to be that way.

Do you think the Iraq and Afghan wars would have been possible without religion involved? If the "terrorists" had been Christians from Spain, would we have declared war on Spain? That and France just for good measure?

How many Buddhists supported either war? Or, on the other hand, who DID support it, cheer it on, and want MORE MORE MORE????

Encouraging people to love one another & not murder, rape, steal, lie, etc serves no 'controlling' purpose, but rather benefits all the world.

Then why did the 'church' "murder, rape, steal, lie, etc"?

It was the elites best, most useful tool to control the masses. It's still dangerous, but it's losing its effectiveness.

The church is comprised of fallible humans, sinners who often do the wrong things.

Being a fallible human is not a 'sin'. It's being a human.

That people are sinners doesnt negate the need for moral law, it only proves it!

You don't need the jews to tell you what's moral, then or now. Morality is not based on the jew 'god', who is one of the most immoral constructs of all time. If you don't believe me, just read the bible. Try living by the bible and see how long you live in freedom. You can't do it. You'll either end up in prison or dead yourself.

Remember, it's all or nothing, right? Either it's 'gods' infallible word or it isn't. Either you live it or you don't. Are you a heretic? Do you choose what to do and believe? You know that heretic means to choose, to make a choice. Your own church does its best to forbid you the ability to make a choice.

Also, there is a conspiracy to destroy & discredit the church from within.

Satanic infiltrators? lol. They aren't needed. Really, we Satanists are not as powerful as some make us out to be. We are a tiny minority, fractured into many splinter groups, many "high priest(ess)" ankle-biting punk kids nipping at each others heels, with lots of ego to go around. The church is destroying itself from within, by christians, through their own actions. And it's about time.

Silly me. I thought they came from sexual repression of the priests and nuns instigated by the church. Only the heretics can get married. Of course the church then uses fear of excommunication of the heretic (and the resultant eternal hell, torture etc) to get them back in line.

It's funny to me how "the devil made me do it" argument is used by the church to cover for their own actions. And to COVER UP their own actions. Just blame Satan and His Infernal Majesties "evil" minions, and carry on with business as usual...

Is the catholic church the Church of Satan? Are they all "in on it"? Is that the organization that you belong to?

If it was a Satanic church, there'd be no kiddie diddling in it. That's for sure. We're more moral than the xtian church.

That has been suggested more than once, and I am not arguing whether it's true or not.

What I AM saying though is that neither of them would have had a chance in hell of getting away with what they did if "Christians" were TRULY peace loving folks, spiritualy pure, and filled with the "Holy Spirit".

Even the "God" of the Bible is a vindictive, selfish, and callous god, one who insists on animal sacrifice, and who orders the slaughter of untold numbers of men, women, and children, including babies.

That is not a "good" or "loving" God, especially being the fact he favors the very people who wrote the "book", where of course they would write that about themselves.

What it comes down to OI is that I ask you, please do not throw bullshit quotes my way. If you wish to discuss, discuss, but man, I can throw quotes back too...

The use of the quotes were not meant to be insulting. I like and respect you too much for that. I just have found that it is much easier to make my point on the pernicious influence of organized psychiatry by quoting them (in answer to your other question I keep a file of them for reference - that I've collected from a variety of websites). I can call them names and insult them till I'm blue in the face but nothing makes the point faster and more effectively than simply repeating what they have said and written themselves. That and I was dead tired and just did not have enough oomph left to do a longer post.

My point really, and you can trace it back through their writings, is that organized psychiatry from Freud on, is very hostile towards religion. You can even find some of the hostility codified in the DSM IV where devout religious beliefs are characterized as mental disease.

The reality is, as I am sure you are aware, that we, the caring people, are facing off against a very evil combine of Banksters and Psychs. Both have their individual aims of subjugation but they are not our friends. You can dig back through their writings and utterances all the way back into the twenties and thirties and this hostility against religion, particularly Christianity, pops up time and time again.

I suspect that one of the reasons that Christianity has been targeted is because of its moral codes and precepts. Under a Christian regime such things as treating individuals and things and using them for whatever foulness moves or titillates these monsters are strictly proscribed.

You can find the hostility against conventional and historical morality tied into and bound up in their rants against it. Mostly you can find it in the older writings from the 30's through the 50's. I suspect that they have become a little more covert but you can follow their actions and see it is still there.

Just to emphasize my point, and not to rouse your hackles, here is a quote from G. Brock Chisholm one of the founders of the World Federation of "Mental Health".

"What basic psychological distortion can be found in every civilization of which we know anything? The only psychological force capable of producing these perversions is morality--the concept of right and wrong. The re-interpretation and eventual eradication of the concept of right and wrong are the belated objectives of nearly all psychotherapy."

They, like fallen angels, reject God & want to be God themselves.Pride is their downfall.

Then there are those who DO believe in God, just not the way they are TOLD to believe in God. They in fact strive for a better understanding of God, and do not rely on the words of men with an agenda to explain what God is.

At one time not that long ago, a person would be brutally and sadistically tortured if he or she didn't "believe" the right way. That is not good, that is evil.

That is the past "work" of church leaders and government, which were one and same for all practical purposes. In fact, the church could be seen as the seat of a true one world government.

A true path to God does not involve inserting hot pokers into people's orifices, tearing apart their bodies, and causing them unimaginable suffering.

However, that is what they did. Seems to me, their "religion" didn't fill their souls with love and kindness, making them "holy", it made them sadistic and evil.

To this day, the vast majority of those who approve and condone our foreign adventures in the Middle East are those who are of that same religion, or an offshoot thereof.

As I brought up, I doubt you'd find very many Buddhists who are cheering for the wars we are currently waging against people who have done us no wrong.

If it was a Satanic church, there'd be no kiddie diddling in it. That's for sure. We're more moral than the xtian church.

That is untrue. In fact, those who worship an evil entity do pretty much everything they can get away with in terms of emulating their master's lust of excess, perversions, and take pleasure in causing other people's misfortune.

They feel they are gods unto themselves, and have the right to do WHATEVER they feel, including causing harm to others.

And as far as satanic child abuse, that is a documented fact, not a fairy tale.

I have no doubt that those who founded the field of psychiatry have ulterior motives, and are very foul people with demented minds.

Just look up Donald Ewen Cameron as an example.

However, I don't recall bringing the subject up.

I guess it was this comment:

However, religion is a drug. It deludes one's mind with things that the REAL mind controllers wish, in order to yank that person around with deep rooted fear if they don't do as they're told to do by those in "authority".

Which reminded me of the attacks on religion etc., ... Like I said I was dog tired so I didn't connect the dots. My bad.

Still I do agree with your criticism that religion has been used as a tool to control people. You can see that stretching well back into the hoary past of humanity - the Egyptian High Priests were masters of manipulation.

However, I guess my point is to separate the perfidy of the High Priests from the core of the subject of religion as it does explore a deep realm of human thought and history. The questions are not light ones but lover of philosophy, and humanity, that I am I find them endlessly enchanting and of no small merit. Religion, taken in the more general philosophic sense, is also a thread that runs through human history and it has its good moments. I think part of the problem is that too often people have been betrayed by religious leaders who stray into seeking more venal and materialistic rewards as compared with the intangibles of leading a good life respectful of others and their beliefs.

If you are ever inclined a good introduction is the book "The Great Religions by Which Men Live". It is an old book and may be hard to find, but was written in the earlier part of the twentieth century before a lot of the hostilities that now exist were created and is a good overview of what the great religions are truly about. One does not have to agree with the precepts of, or practice it, to find that each of the great religions, at their best, do offer something of intangible worth.

Thanks for the laugh to lighten things up. Things were getting a little heated.

I took the liberty of fixing that quote of yours.

Really? lol

article: "I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."

Original_Intent: There is a great variety of illogic and unsupported assertions and assumptions to be found in this statement.

OKIE_DOKIE, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I am game. Let's step through your incrementally increasing, three set numerically itemized rebuttals (below) about your own rational, objective and methods of suggesting otherwise.

1. It assumes without foundation of proof or logic that sentience is purely a function of biology.

The poor ol' laid-up Hawkings doesn't have the physical stamina as most people but there is NO ASSUMPTION although, the preface of the same statement by Hawkings is the following assertion: "I regard." The claim in the same article is because of his own physical disabilities which is not a s-t-r-e-t-c-h for otherwise normal people to understand. He was not attempting to prove or create anything other than a his own understanding of the world around us based on his own background.

2. From that premise we get again, without benefit of proof or logic, the assumption that sentience and awareness lie within the physical brain.

What is wrong with that? Millions of people were wishing Christian families around the world bon voyage because of Harold Camping's long claimed "rapture" which ended a few hours ago. Nothing happened other than another day; Camping also claimed all those ol' rotten graves would be rising up to heaven. HELL, we didn't even see Elvis rising up.

Your point of view is ludicrous, at best. What makes you think that "consciousness" does not require a physical support system?

3. Also implied is that matter organizes itself without benefit of sentience into sentience. In other words the universe created itself and in turn life, awareness, and existence are all functions of the random interaction of chemicals which came from some undesignated source, organized themselves without benefit of awareness or intelligence, and wa-la fucking magic - IT LIVES!

Those are YOUR ideas, not Hawking's. Hawking made no such implication.

Here are the serious problems with the article based on Hawking:

article: In his 2010 book, "The Grand Design" he said the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting another star other than the Sun helped deconstruct the view of the father of physics Isaac Newton that the universe could not have arisen out of chaos but was created by God.

That conclusion is nonsense by Hawking.

article: "That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions -- the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings," he writes.

The reference is based on religious beliefs which often place mankind as the center of the Universe and therefore "special." It was known for centuries that we are just idiots looking for hope and change not about anything but our individual selves concerning the hard work of mere survival.

"In a free society we're supposed to know the truth," ... "In a society where truth becomes treason, then we're in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it" -- Ron Paul, circa 2010-12-02

Buck, I don't know what awaits us if anything on the other side.

I'm skeptical of those who say they do, especially when they want money.

In a 'A Brief History of Time' Mr Hawkings used thesaurus dictionary and a lot of synonym words can't let us see the true vision of things. That's my IMO. No offence...
