Article from "The Daily" 22/05/11

"Experts" are pushing to add lithium to the entire USA's drinking water supply, as they claim that research indicates this will:- Reduce suicide rates, events of violent crime and hard drug use. "cultivating a more serene social order"

I was wondering why in recent months, the media has been bizarrely pushing "zombie" stories - this might explain it!

Dr Allan Young - physchology professor from Imperial college London seems genuinely surprised that after publishing his initial research in 2009, he was "likened to a Nazi" and received numerous death-threats

A very long time ago, I think about 1920, there was a proposal to put iodine in the water .... just a tiny amount, to prevent goiter and other deficiencies. The idea was scrapped when it was discovered that some people were allergic to iodine.

I don't know if anyone is allergic to lithium but in its therapeutic doses to control schizophrenia or mood swings it literally teeters on the edge of a toxic dose. It reduces mood swings only when it is so strong as to shock the system with near-toxicity; which is why constant blood tests are needed to monitor that the dosage is just right for the individual patient. And the end result is a patient whose mood is not merely steady but practically stunned; the patient is calm ... and a bit dopey. No more works of art or invention from that patient.

I cannot see how it can have universal good results by exposing the whole populace to a dosage far below the therapeutic level and not monitoring individuals. Of course, I know nothing about medicine, but I do know something about lithium as a psychiatric drug. Even if it works, there are substantial drawbacks. There was a most informative article in New York Magazine about 30 years ago.

While someone was checking the police reports in those Texas counties, I wonder if anyone checked the school attainments -- what happened to the rates of students each year who were accepted at top universities and won large scholarships, etc.

I might add that some people are already exposed to lithium in their daily work, and we don't know how this additional exposure through drinking water would effect them.

Scary isn't it? Those "patriot myths" stick in my throat like a turkey bone on Thanksgiving. But look at the bright side, Flint. In a decade or so, think of the wonderful tales we can exchange in the FEMA re-education camps :)
