It's kind of unfortunate. With 30HP, you could easily run that to 50-60mph, but they had to limit it to 25mph to keep it in the NEV [neighborhood electric vehicle] class. Any faster and you've got to meet a million bullshit govt regs.
I've cobbled together two electric motorcycles/bicycles and achieved 30+mph on less than 1HP. Of course, neither is street legal, but they're a riot to ride, silent and zero maintennance. Cost was well under $1,000 each.

Why don't they reveal the cost of an eight hour charge?
Cost is negligible. It'd cost about the equivilent of getting 250mpg. Gas engines in an automotive application can only achieve about 13% efficiency, the rest is dissipated as waste heat through the radiator, exhaust, brakes etc. EVs can easily get into the high 90% efficiency range.

Unfortunately Exxon-Mobil, BP, Chevron-Texaco, Shell, Total and others hold all the patents for decent solar (and battery) technology. They're not selling.
Every damn time a company comes up with a substantial improvement in solar or battery efficiency, the big boys swoop in and buy 'em out and make 'em disappear. Every time.
You don't really think XOM or the goob is going to allow you to tool around in a car that's maintennance-free and free to drive, do you?
