Texas Governor Rick Perry to host prayer summit that calls upon Jesus to solve America’s problems

Texas Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed August 6 as a "Day of Prayer and Fasting for our Nation to seek God's guidance" and has invited governors from across the nation to join his Christian prayer summit at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

"Given the trials that beset our nation and world, from the global economic downturn to natural disasters, the lingering danger of terrorism and continued debasement of our culture, I believe it is time to convene the leaders from each of our United States in a day of prayer and fasting, like that described in the book of Joel," Perry said in a statement released Monday.

"I urge all Americans of faith to pray on that day for the healing of our country, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of enduring values as our guiding force."

On the website for the prayer summit, Perry added that Americans "must come together and call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles" because " some problems are beyond our power to solve."

Perry is the longest-serving governor in Texas history and is considering making a run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. In April, he issued an official proclamation urging Texans to pray for rain in the midst of a severe drought that had sparked more than 8,000 wildfires. Last year, he said the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might have been an "act of God" that would have occurred regardless of safety regulations.

The Secular Coalition for America strongly condemned the proposed prayer summit. The group, which represents atheists, agnostics and other nontheistic Americans, said the event privileges Christianity over other religions and is "an insult to the millions of upstanding citizens who practice religions other than evangelical Christianity."

The prayer summit is co-hosted by the American Family Association, a conservative Christian group that advocates traditional family values and the reform of American culture "to reflect Biblical truth on which it was founded." The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled the organization as a "hate group" because of its harsh and outspoken views on homosexuality. (1 image)

Does Rick Perry know that Jesus would call the Jews vipers? Does he know this, or is he a anti-Semite by having this call for prayer to Jesus Christ?

I am happy about his prayer request whatever his motivations were in calling for it. Christians should already be praying for Jesus to help us, but it doesn't hurt for a governor to request this publicly.

I expect the ADL to immediately call this man every name in the book.

Also Father, please let the people see clearly that they are being lied to about who did 9/11 and let them know who did it. Please bring your wrath upon the ones that covered up 9/11 and the ones who planned it and carried it out. In Jesus name, Amen.

God is always good!

Just a note of caution, this looks like a FF event to me. I would steer clear and pray at a distance and not wait till 08/06/11 to pray, and pray everyday.

Perry has attempted to put the NAFTA (NAU) Highway through Texas - tried to shove Gardasil into the bodies of all young Texas girls by executive fiat and as stated above is a NWO (Bilderberg) punk.

He should concentrate on saving his "soul" and leave Texas alone !

Typical political grandstanding. When in trouble, wrap oneself in the flag, and if that doesn't help enough, wrap oneself in an altar cloth. Right now a lot of Texas voters are praying that God raptures Perry this very day.

Perry, like all other faux "christians," wants to make a public spectacle and thinks/believes that God and Christ exist to serve him and the U.S.I. despite the fact that he/they more represent the evil one and antichrist.

Yep......I cringe at Perry's blatant public spectacle with not an iota of substance.

Twain's prayer is very adept. : )

I don't know if Perry is a "faux" Christian, but he's hinting around about running for President. Apparently he is following in the footsteps of Pat Robertson, who sought lower office as "God's candidate"; you may remember just how successful that was.

For as long as I can remember, every four years some nitwit runs on the claim that God told him to run. God seems to enjoy watching nitwits make fools of themselves. I suppose that they claim they have God's endorsement because they cannot get an endorsement from anyone else.
