I have decided time travel will not work. Let’s say you jump one hour into the future. The earth will have moved, as will have the solar system around the galaxy, and for that matter, the galaxy itself. You’d materialize in space.

The same would happen going into the past.

As fun as it is to engage in thought experiments in which you meet dinosaurs, or Morlocks and Eloi, in reality it can’t happen.

As I’ve pointed out before, teleportation or those Star Trek transporters, wouldn’t work. If you were beamed down on the equator you’d end up a red streak since the earth is spinning about 1000 miles an hour.

It appears this space-time continuum stuff prevents us from teleportation or time travel. It’s too bad.

Still, there’s always those Stargates.

the movement of your target destination is included in the calculations for the trip, just like travelling to the moon in a rocket ship ... if one simply aimed their rocket at where the moon is when they blast off, it would be long gone when they reached that point in space .... gotta aim for where it will be when ya get there and adjust speed to match rotation ...

All of that occurs in calculating info for Atillery Fire also.

But we usually hit what we wanted to.............

How are you going to figure where the earth is at one million years in the future?

that one would be quite daring I think ... one would have to assume way too many constants imo - not sure I would dare it with present technology *s

Time Travel

If I could I'd damn sure go back to Hawaii in August, 1961, then I'd head back to Switzerland in 1917 and pay a visit to Vladimir Lenin. Next, I'd try to head off the Feral Reserve/income tax in 1913 and move on to see Honest Abe Lincoln in April, 1861.

Time Travel

I would finally figure out how they made those darn pyramids and solve that Stone Hedge mystery......then I would procure the most needed patents and secrets from the great Nikola Tesla. : )

Often thought about that myself. Need a time machine that's fixed to the ground by a stake. lol

Not if the Enterprise was in geostationary orbit.. lol

Now imagine if you could teleport yourself. You could do it from pole to pole, since it takes each pole 24 hours to turn. But if you went from pole to equator, you'd hit the ground at 1000 miles an hour. And if you went from equator to pole, you'd land with you doing 1000 miles an hour.

I just can't see teleporation and/or time travel working. The problems involved appear to be beyond our abilities.

Moving straight in West/East directions are certainly not a problem so. But, we are in the world of sci-fi for now, some sci-fi films/shows/books/etc depict teleportation from terminal-to-terminal, in such a case, the North-South problem can be overcome. And, if teleportation is indeed possible, I would say it would most likely work terminal-to-terminal rather than terminal-to-non terminal location anyway. Star Trek tends to ignore other practical difficulties with teleportation, like, eg, we often seen an episode where the away team gets beamed to a location underground, which to me seems an unprobable feat, most likely a teleporter would get as far as a surface area without signal corruption..
