WASHINGTON - The widely used preservative formaldehyde and the coffee-cup component styrene were added to a list of known and suspected carcinogens by the feds. Formaldehyde, linked to leukemia and a rare type of nasal cancer, is "known to be a human carcinogen," according to a report by the National Institutes of Health. Styrene, often used in food containers, is categorized by researchers as "reasonably anticipated" to be cancer-causing. They were among eight new agents listed as carcinogens, bringing the total to 240. The cancer-causing risk from formaldehyde and styrene comes from the products' widespread use in industrial applications and less from their presence in consumer products, officials said. Industrial groups criticized the report, saying the fears were unfounded. The American Cancer Society said consumers should not worry about cups or food containers, but should shelve personal products with formaldehyde.

The American Cancer Society is in bed with the pharmaceutical industry with all their so-called "cures" most likely stemming from the work of the Nazi [Bankster] scientists brought to America after WWII for the purpose of killing us "softly". The American Cancer Society should be shelved.

just a reminder that there is formaldehyde & worse in many name brand dog foods. such as ground up dead roadkill carcasses & pig feces which is listed as 'animal protein' in 'pet food. very nasty & bad for our beloved pets.

Most of the chemicals used in the production and processing of plastics is toxic and carcinogenic. It cost me a Liver Transplant at 63 y.o. BTW, while reviewing the results of OSHA's inspections of one of the plants that I managed, the inspector told me that OSHA knew the tolerable levels of exposure to the chemicals was set way too high. He said that if they were set to safe levels it would Shut Down the Plastics Industry. >

The formaldehyde based products are not just used in the home, but heavily throughout the food, restaurant, and agriculture food production industries. It is completely INSEPARABLE from the way foods are manufactured, transported, stored, and prepared in our culture. Its even worse in Asian countries, but I don't know what the cancer related impact is in such countries as China, Japan, and Indonesia where they are becoming even more addicted to microwaving food than we are due to ever decreasing energy.

I'm not knowledgable about that area, but I believe you're right on on it. Now I got something ELSE to avoid!! :-)
