Tiny asteroids will do that, at just about that angle and just about that effect. Figure a ten pound or smaller piece of celestial rock, traveling at relatively high speed, piercing a puffy cloud. Has anyone puffed a breath through cigarette smoke, it's the same thing. Shoot a BB through cigar smoke, you'll see.

Yep, I say asteroid. Little ones hit the ground all the time. Big ones are seen at night.

Now, catching it on camera makes it a UFO for sure. The military definition is unidentified flying object. It's not space ships with green men but, a space ship like earth, traveling through the neighborhood. UFOs are spotted all the time.

Asteroid.

One more visual... a cannon going off with lots of smoke would make a perfect forward moving ring of smoke.

My 2c:

That's not at a relatively high speed, but an extremely high speed. Problem #2 with a meteor is they are glowing red/white when the pass through the atmosphere.

I once saw what must have been a meteor during daytime, tumbling, and it was glowing fiercely. And it wasn't going anywhere near as fast as this thing seemed to go.

This object was dark and not glowing, so I say it rules out a meteor.

That's not a very high altitude cloud either.

Looking at it a bit more, it could easily be a hoax. Might just be an insect flying across the view and then some photo shop work to paint the cloud ring. The give away might be that, except for the ring and some cloud residue, the cloud seems otherwise completely unaffected by the object.

Ok what interests me is not the bursting through the cloud. If you watch the second viewing, to the right of the cloud, you can see the object for a split second. It is not smooth though but jumps.

Yep, I say asteroid. Little ones hit the ground all the time. Big ones are seen at night.

A) Asteroids are miniature planets which orbit the sun. They do NOT hit the earth, if they did there would be one hell of a crater, or a huge tsunami if one hit the ocean.

B) Meteors are smaller objects which do enter the earth's atmosphere; if they hit before they burn up they are called a meteorite.

C) Meteors are engulfed in flames when they pass through the atmosphere due to the extremely high heat generated by them passing through the air at a very high speed. That is why they are sometimes called shooting stars.

D) A meteor would have a downwards trajectory, not a horizontal trajectory.

E) That object was not a meteor, since it was not glowing or on fire, it was traveling horizontally and apparently at a consistent altitude.

If you look closely, watching the video several times, there are actually TWO objects. One is saucer shaped, travels at an extremely high speed, and is what pierces the cloud forming that ring of water vapor. A SECOND object then comes into the frame from the top right corner of the screen and changes course near the cloud, following the first object.

It could be argued that the second object might have been a bug which flew near the camera lens, but the first object was definitely NOT a bug.

And since the second object isn't noticeable until you view the zoomed in and slowed down section of the video, it more than likely wasn't a bug either.

You need to expand the video to full screen and download the high definition version, preferably the 720 HD one.

Then pause the video at the points the object is in view, you'll see what I mean.

I once saw what must have been a meteor during daytime, tumbling, and it was glowing fiercely. And it wasn't going anywhere near as fast as this thing seemed to go.

I once was traveling from AZ to San Diego at night, and was passing through the mountains. I saw a bright green object falling down, it seemed to be on fire but the flames were green. It almost seemed to be falling WAY too slow for a meteor, and it eventually passed behind one of the mountains where I assumed it had hit.

Thing is, there was no sound, yet it appeared to only be about 10 miles away or less, judging by the relative distance of the mountain it passed behind. And it seemed to be pretty damn big as well, where if it HAD been a meteor there would have at least been a flash of light when it hit and some sort of thud or loud crack. Like I said, it seemed to be traveling very slow for a meteor, almost more like it was descending with some sort of propulsion keeping it at a slow velocity.

It creeped me out big time, and as I was by myself on a deserted highway in the middle of nowhere, I was just hoping that my car didn't decide to break down. Made it to SD without incident, as far as I can remember at least.

D) A meteor would have a downwards trajectory, not a horizontal trajectory.

Not necessarily. Some meteors can pass through the upper atmosphere and return back to space without either breaking up or touching down. One did that back in the 60's, or maybe 50's, which was filmed. It was a glowing fireball that arched through the sky and then returned to space.

I'd suggest that most meteors do not head straight down to the ground, but instead come in at some respectable angle.

The jumps would presumably be due to the camera frame speed, of course. A high speed video camera wouldn't have it.

But if this is not a hoax, why didn't the makers show the object in still frames instead of just focusing on the cloud?

I think this is a hoax, and that the dark object was just a bug or something flying close to the camera.

I think the second object is most definitely an insect.

Well you could say it was a flying penguin as well, but that wouldn't make it true.

No way that was a rock. Like I said, a meteor would be brightly glowing, and would not be traveling left to right in the sky, it'd be coming DOWN on an angle, and traveling MUCH slower at that altitude.

Here's a video of a meteor...

What size monitor are you viewing this on? I have a 24 inch widescreen, at full screen at high res I can definitely make out the shape of the object, and it's not bug shaped.

If they skim the atmosphere, yes that is true. But this object was below the cloud cover, so it was almost at ground level relatively speaking.

I've got a 21.6 inch screen. Not sure if that's diagonal or horizontal distance but it's a big one.

To me, on the freeze frame, there's just not enough definition to say what 3D shape it really is.
