ENLARGE PHOTO By Steve Bennish, Staff Writer Updated 1:51 AM Saturday, June 26, 2010 DAYTON — Police from around the city rushed to the scene of a scuffle between an officer and a 16-year-old boy around 8 p.m. Friday June 25, in an incident that left the teen shot with a Taser but not seriously injured. Police Sgt. Roger Edwards said pepper spray was also used to try to bring the youth into custody. Edwards said the teen was apparently mentally disabled and riding his bike. He wouldn’t stop at the request of a police officer, and rode his bike to his home near the intersection of Clover Street and St. Paul Avenue not far from Xenia Avenue. The officer and the youth then began fighting and the officer couldn’t bring him into custody, Edwards said, prompting the officer to call for backup. Police units from around the city rushed to the scene. The youth and another person who tried to intervene were arrested and taken to a local hospital to be examined, Edwards said. Lt. Robert Mannix said the 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of violating traffic law, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer. A 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of obstructing and resisting. Pamela Thompson, the teen’s mother, complained that police were too rough. She said he ran home because he was afraid of police. “He said, ‘Mommy, Mommy!’ she said. “And he’s screaming and fighting” in the doorway of the home. Mannix said she was issued a summons by police for interfering in the arrest. She pulled the Taser prongs from the teen during the scuffle, he added. first off dollars to doughnuts the Ohio traffic law is written for commercial motor vehicles of which the bike in question would not fall under. what the cops did was commit multiple counts of aggravated assault which when committed by a public servant ie cop it is a felony.
