I used to snorkel with just over two minutes. This fish can go as long as five.

I've never dived deep enough to need to balance ear canal pressure more than once on the way down, but he looked to be 2 or 3 times that depth. I'm skeptical cuz I didn't see him do that even once, and if you have ever gone too deep without balancing the pressure, you know the pain is excruciating.

I don't think you can train ear drums not to burst when pressure outside greatly exceeds pressure inside, but I ain'ts no doctor.
