Title: Clothes, the Culprit of Vitamin D Deficieny.

Disrobing the Culprit of Vitamin D3 Deficiency.

Could it be that social evolution has made vitamin D deficiency a necessary evil? Studies have shown favorable effects on insulin secretion and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic patients who received vitamin D3 supplementation.

The study evaluated 10 females with type 2 diabetes. The patients enrolled in the study treated their diabetes with oral medications. The study was conducted in March, when levels of vitamin D are lowest due to lack of sunlight. A group of 17 females with normal glucose tolerance served as a control group. The diabetic patients were treated for a month with vitamin D3. After the month, the patient's receiving vitamin D3 had increased their insulin secretion levels significantly by 34.3%. The results showed a decrease of 21.4% in insulin resistance after one month of vitamin D3 supplementation.

Back in the day, our ancestors would have full body exposure to the sun throughout the year. Nowadays, that number has been reduced to a mere 5% with only our face and hands acting as a welcome mat for the sun. A major source of vitamin D is its production in our skin as a result of UV exposure from sunlight. Lest we not take Mother Nature's generosity for granted. Everybody looks good with a little color. It'll look even better when your A1c drops as your sun-kissed glow picks up. If all else fails - you can always run off to a nudist colony where social reservations and clothing are optional!

Show those pasty white buns some sun.

Lets not get extreme now.

However I do wear shorts and short sleeve shirt with normally sandals or slip-ons for most of the summer. Since I spend a fair amount of time outside in the garden I suspect I am getting a lot more "D" than most.

Remember The White Rose
"“Believe nothing merely because you have been told it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be kind, conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings - that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.” ~ Gautama Siddhartha — The Buddha

Nothing extreme. It's 100% natural.
Exposed legs and arms are not much surafce area. Look in the mirror and compare the area of white to tan areas. Lots of unused D production capacity.
Besides, tan lines are ugly.
Throw off those chafing, movment hindering, rags and go free for D3!

No they didn't. From Kentucky north, the wind and snow blows from December thru March. And you either covered up or froze to death. And even if you were too stupid to cover up, the amount of UV/Vit D received from the sun in the northern climes is zip during the winter. The only way to receive appropriate levels of vitamin D in the north is with supplementation. That's why all my ancestors died in October - December, when vitamin D levels were plummeting.

In the summer you can only get so much vitamin D from the sun, you can not get more because the body only lets so much to be made through the skin. Most get more than they need in the summer from their face and arms alone. Blacks however might need to take their shirts off around noon to get their vitamin D, but for whites there is no need to do that.

I suppose you could get all the D you need by exposing your big toe to sunlight all day. However the rest of the pasty-white body is missing out on the benefits.
That's the idea, expose as much skin as possible to maximize the benefits for the whole body.

Your skin only produces enough vitamin D from sun exposure that you need, after that it stops producing vitamin D from sun exposure. You can't get more vitamin D from more exposure after you already have what you need. Your body won't let you.

My understanding is that it is not possible for most people to receive the amount of vitamin D from the sun that some doctors recommend, especially in the winter. For instance, Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who runs a blog called the Heart Scan Blog, is a big advocate of vitamin D and recommends that vitamin D in the body be between 60 - 70 ng/ml. Most other medical professionals that believe in the benefits of vitamin D recommend around the same levels. That's like three or four times what the government recommends. I take 4,000 IU's a day - two in the morning and two at night.

It's real important though to have your vitamin D levels monitored every six months because too much vitamin D can actually cause harm. My vitamin D levels have slowing risen over the last six months. When I was first tested, my D level was 32 ng/ml. After six months of taking 4,000 IU's a day a day it rose to 48 ng/ml. I'm hoping that when I get tested three months from now that it will be between the 60 - 70 ng/ml range. Once there, I will back off some and maybe only take 2 or 3,000 IU's.

A word of caution. If you are going to take supplemental vitamin D in high levels, try not to take it all at one time. Split it up so that you are taking it two or three times a day. Too much vitamin D at one time can cause damage to your kidneys, especially if you are taking 6,000 or more IU's a day.

Maybe that's why my back hurts.

Wow. That's quite a bit, although I have read other cases where people have had to take that amount and more because their D levels weren't budging. It's best to break it up though. Have you ever had your blood levels checked to see what they are? If not, it would benefit you greatly to do so. Vitamin D toxicity can cause kidney and liver damage due to hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood).

It's almost time for another physical, and I'll definitely ask for a thorough blood work-up.

The vitamin D blood test is not part of your routine blood tests. You have to specifically ask for it. There are two separate vitamin D blood tests. The one you need is the 25-hydroxyvitamin D test (also known as the 25(OH)D test). Your insurance may or may not pay for it.

As for taking the 10000 IU's a day, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's doubtful that you have vitamin D toxicity, especially if you weigh more than 200 lbs. The numbers I've seen say that a good starting point is 1000 IU's per 25 lbs of body weight. Even then, the body doesn't store vitamin D until your blood levels reach 50 ng/ml. Everything below that is used by the body. I would think about splitting the amount up though because there are studies that have shown kidney damage if 6000 or more IU's are taken at one time for long periods of time. I don't know if that's conclusive, but why take the chance? That's just my opinion though.

Yeah, but what if you sunburn the little soldier?

"Vlad the Impaler" is sunburned right now, on the head.
I treat him with aloe vera lotion and witch hazel.

I have a cheap inflatable raft that sags alot in the middle, submerging my hip area. Vlad floats, so his head bobs around at the water surface. Thus, sunburn.
I've had full-body sunburn before. Treated with aloe vera lotion.

It seems people are only thinking about D production. Yes, the body only makes so much, but the more surface area involved in the production the better. And exposre to sunlight has benifits beyond D.

I know I feel GREAT after a weekend nude in the sun. On my last vacation I spent seven days nude and was able to stop taking St Johns Wort. Now it's over and I'm back on the SJW.

Not that subsequent plays have been annoying or anything, but of whatever humor was there to begin with, none in my book, the law of diminishing returns was in turbo mode on that one rendering the third reference to little more than shameless self-promotion.

A Marine DI would tell you there's a difference between your "gun" and your rifle.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

And fuckin' grow up in the mean time!

It is not a matter of growing up. It is a matter of...well...I hate to say self esteem but that is what it boils down to. Dillo has suffered things in his childhood that most of us never have to deal with. Posting here is more like therapy for him, brings him out of his shell and allows him to interact with others in a safe and non threatening environment. Having been there and done that, I get it.

He keeps it light hearted and bizarrely humorous. Ironically, anything more would be too revealing for him. I find him fun and a nice break from the growing crap we have to deal with in this country. Besides the nudist camp he also enjoys art photography. Only a select few get to see that side of him. I feel honored and privileged.

I know how hard it can be, hurting, reaching out only to be slapped down. You find out real quick that most people are insensitive, uncaring jerks. I choose not to be one of those. Like being a hard core libertarian, it can be a tough road to walk. I know why Jesus wept.

I've determined it must be the first because I know of only a handful of people so narcisistic i that way and they all have significant emotional validation issues of one sort or another.

And the correct response is compassion. Hard for men I know but it is doable with practice.

To be honest, I wasn't even primarily referring to his "nudist" stuff, I'm referring to a whole slew of other stuff that's borderline filth that simply does not belong in any civil forum on topics such as we discuss here, if and assuming it wants to be taken seriously by new and/or infrequent readers that may not understand that we have people here simply vying for personal validation and affection due to unresolved sexual issues/abuses they may or may not have had when they were children or adolescents.

From the best that I can tell that's all that anyone was originally referring to, and wud I'm guessing simply just got fed up, which quite frankly I had been expecting by one or more posters for quite some time now.

Generally that which I find tasteless I simply ignore. I've dropped in on a couple of 'dillo threads that I did not care for and so simply ignored the thread thereafter.

While I tend to more or less conventional in my moral attitudes (not a saint, not a prude) I have enough of a libertarian streak to play the "live and let live" view.

Whatever the genesis of dillo's viewpoint he is welcome to it. I don't share it so when I find his bizarre humor interesting I play and when I find it tasteless I don't.

I have other things to do with my time, and I'm also one of at least a handful of regular civil posters that contribute to the critical thinking parts of discussions here that thinks much of what Armadillo posts is over the top in one capacity or another.

so apparently this has all been discussed behind the scenes with everyone but the one person that counts. I have less respect for behind the scenes gossip than I do for anything that has been openly posted on the forum.

As well, are there limits in your mind to some of the stuff that he posts? [again, serious question]

No, there isn't. I wish there were an adult section for the raunchier talk but there isn't. I wish people had engaged Dillo privately about the topic, found out the cause and perhaps counseled him on it's appropriateness but that didn't happen.

I used to engage in such talk privately but even though it was private I was still ostracized and demeaned for it. I was even banned from a non public adult forum for it, to protect the children mind you. I stopped, bringing it down to what you currently see on the open forum. People think it is wrong to have an openly sexual and aggressive female even in private and they will do what ever it takes to enforce their beliefs on every situation. I don't have a "nudist resort" where I can take it.

Relatedly, in your mind does most of what he posts in this manner line up with the general theme and overall ideology of 4um? [again, serious question]

I don't have a problem with it or I would have said something to Dillo prior to this thread. and that is really for christine to decide. I also think that you and wudidiz's reactions are not in keeping with the 4um. I'm dismayed and appalled and questioning my own presence here.

Where does his STFU directed at me over accepting his crap or hitting the highway fit into your assessment of the situation here? [serious question]

He over reacted to your posts because of the extreme hurt he felt from wudidiz's crap. And I told him this in private. FWIW, you also over reacted, failing to see it for what it was, a defensive reflex reaction. I would have preferred seeing a kind word from you instead. Perhaps a Dude, mellow, I wasn't attacking you, but perhaps you could dial the sex stuff back a bit. Instead you got defensive yourself. I'm the queen of defensiveness so I get that but I also know it doesn't work.

So let's start there, shall we. W/o addressing that first, there really is no sense in taking it further. Again, I've not heard any kind of apology or indication, from him, that might suggest that that was totally uncalled for. All I hear is you defending him for being a great guy otherwise. You don't see any contradiction here? Given that that's where this began with this balloon going up, I dare say, he did it to himself.

He hasn't been on the web since I told him he over reacted. There hasn't been time. I'll read the rest of your post when I get home from work. Don't count on me answering. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing left for me on this forum. Perhaps Buck is right and chit chat channels aren't worth the time.

That's ridiculous. I wasn't attacking him, which should be plain to see for anyone here.

That's my point, he didn't see it. He has a hard time with that and gently pointing it out was the better option.

Am I finger pointing at you? Yes, just as you are pointing at his behavior, I'm pointing to yours.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

You say I got defensive? ... ROFLMAO, ... yeah, a STFU directed at you will typically do that in a forum.

Try it a few times and see if it doesn't spawn what you call defensiveness.

Sigh. I've been there already or did you miss that? Members of this forum have repeatedly attacked me personally, calling into question my integrity and motivations. Not one person rushed to my defense, so I'm under no illusions. My response was to stick to the facts of the discussion, ignoring the personal attacks. I have developed a reputation for that in fact. I've had hangman's nooses posted to me suggesting I should die, I've had cock roaches with my name on them. I've had a poster on this forum post pictures of snakes suggesting that I was dishonest and a snake in the grass. I've had posters on this forum suggest I'm a shill for oil companies. I've had one person on this forum tell everyone in PMs about my personal habits claiming I was collecting personal information on people. One of these posters was even mentioned on this thread. When your STFU matches what I've gone through I might have some sympathy. But I would be the only one. Sympathy on this or any forum is in short supply.

Well, then he )(not you for him) has to learn how to correct that, doesn't he.

yes he does but he is not going to get there the way you are handling it.

I challenge you to find anything at all that I wrote that was directed at him that even remotely approaches that.

There is a valid explanation for his perceptions on this matter but it should not be discussed on the open forum.

Otherwise, amidst my asking you to do so, you still have not pointed out the moral deficiencies in "my behavior" in the matter.

Yes I have but you missed it.

... in keeping w/ our theme.

Now would be a good time to post the joke known as THE ARISTOCRATS.

And, FWIW, American nudists are by definition insular and isolated, never forcing others to accept the practice of nudity. They don't disrobe and then go shopping, opting for private gatherings and retreats instead. (The majority don't advocate change or lobby to abolish public nudity laws either)

But, apparently a virtual nudist (who according to farmfriend is wrestling with mental health issues) is unconcerned about offending the sensibilities of others. The fact that there are places where such posts would be welcome (and probably boring by comparison) doesn't seem to hold any attraction for him. Perhaps the shock factor is the thrill as is also the case with (mentally disordered) flashers, who are compelled to wave their junk at school girls.

It's interesting to note that they are also well represented in prisons, and known as "gunslingers." The inmates who are compelled to flash female corrections officers can't seem to control themselves even though they're sure to be punished with pink jail clothing, loss of privileges, time in the hole, failure to make early parole, etc.,. They too are positively vicious in defense of their compulsions, masking the obvious fact that they have no choice but to show the world that their ego self portrait is linked to their arrested sexual development. (often while being defended by those with bad cases of penis envy)

In different times there would be comprehensive studies to determine the root of these compulsions, such as potty training gone bad. Unfortunately, we're in the clutches of anally fixated tribalists who use their diplomas in the various psychological disciplines to try and convince us that NAMBLA is the norm and modest, discreet heterosexuals who as adults require no such validation ("look Mommy, I have a pee pee! And, it's sunburned!") are "uptight".

If Armadillo and farmfriend prevail in moving the bar here and unfettered "sunburned penis chats" become the acceptable norm I'll be sure to locate a few bukake chat boards and invite the feces eaters (and their PHOTOBUCKET albums) over. After all, arbitrary standards are for assholes and what are you so uptight about?

"Oh you'll wonder where the feces went when you brush your teeth with PEPSODENT"....

This ongoing thread has nothing to do with offending the sensibilities, contrary to claims.
It has to do with trolls Wud and Eric attempting to tear down someone else to build themselves up. That's what trolls and bullys do.

If it were about sensibilities the issue would have been long over with the use of the BOZO LIST. Note that my repeated suggestion of the Bozo list has been rejected. It's not about sensibilities, it's about wud/eric ego. That's why they keep this going.

On sensibilities in general, it is not my job to protect your sensibilities.
Trying to protect the sensibilities of eveyone is one way this country is so screwed up. You do not desire freedom, you desire fascism.

If you truely are concerned about your sensibilities, use the Bozo list.

As far a nudists, you are 100% wrong.
Nudists isloate themselves because the law makes the isolate. Every nudist I know would love to shop in the mall nude, jog nude in parks, or swim nude at public pools. They can not because of the immature attitude of American sensibilities about nudity. There is nothing lewd, immoral, or disgusting about nudity. There is no rational reason why the law forces us to wear clothes.
Children raised as nudists are better adjusted, better behaved, and have a better body self image.

If a law can force you to wear clothes, why cant it force you to have health insurence? They are both products. Think about that.

You, Miz farmfriend, are a liar.

It was YOU who decided to start biting at my ankles, and being that you WERE acting like a shill in certain pharmacutecal and oil industry related threads, I called a spade a spade.

ADDITIONALLY, I was told that you were hounding men on 4um trying to get "lucky". I was ALSO told that you were trying to get personal info on people that you were "friends" with. I've kept most of this to myself for obvious reasons, but if you'd like I could go into specifics without naming names.

Being that you have NOT buried the hatchet so to speak, even when months ago I extended an offer to so do and let the past lie where it will, you refused. You continue to drag up the exchange as if you were a rape victim, and play the part of a victim whenever you wish to garner sympathy for yourself, to make your chosen opponent appear to be a big mean prick. That in your mind is a "win".

It is obvious that you are VERY interested in Dillo's "Impaler". You and he have gone back and forth so to speak over his dick for months.

You should be ashamed of yourself. If you want some action perhaps you should go sign up for "Adult Friend Finder", that might very well be the place for you.

There is nothing sexual about floating in a cheap raft, or a penis floating.

If my friends are welcome then neither am I. I don't seem to be one of those a fore mentioned people that contribute to the intellectual content of the forum. I'm gone.

Okay the drama on this thread is getting out of hand guys. You know I love you all so if you're pissed off at one another please put each other an bozo and move along........nothing to see here looky lous!

It's getting more personal than necessary over an initial joke about a sunburn on "Vlad," IMHO.

FF, sweetie, I think you are over-reacting. Now, don't club me for saying so.

Problem is, there are ladies and gentlemen and children that see this site too. Talking about wacking off and his dick is inappropriate.

Bottom line.

He can stop doing it or we'll keep telling him how inappropriate it is.

If you, or any other poster who feels this way, puts him on bozo, you won't see it......neither will the kiddies or any ladies who are posting on the forum with you. : )

Personally, I don't have my kiddies check out the forum with me......too many pics, images, links, slurs, etc. But, I don't feel that we need to stifle the free speech of others under the guise of "FOR THE CHIBLIN!"

Sorry, Wud, I'm not smokin' what you are rollin' on this one.

And no it's not about my personal preferences. And no I won't put him on bozo.

My point with the "7 billion people" is that you were Incorrect to Assume I was referring to My Lady or children.

I'ts not about My personal preferences. It's about morality and principle.

You're projecting and assuming that I'm the one getting emotional when in Fact it's you who's personal liking to your friend has overridden your sensibility, morals and reason. Not necessarily in that order.

"Oh you'll wonder where the feces went when you brush your teeth with PEPSODENT"....33;SODENT"....

Very well said, thank you.

No, I'm not projecting and no it's not about my personal preferences. Like I said before, if posters post what I find distasteful I refrain from the conversation and that goes for friend or not so much friend. Simple.

I don't pile on and defend others based on personal liking or dislike.....too much of that crap went on over at LP and I never did like it. This, to me, is about free speech and I believe in it, even for those who say things I don't like so much. Free speech is the PRINCIPLE that I am defending. : )

Morality is a subjective subject and it is not synonymous with a defense of the principle of free speech, nor will it ever be. Morality can not be defended by immoral actions.....it is best defended by setting an example.

If someone talked like that in front of women and children in public they'd be told just like they have here. There's a difference between free speech and being disrespectful and lude.

Telling someone to be polite, respectful and watch their language is not an immoral action.

I just read up the thread and noticed that Dillo was asked by another poster first about sunburning the little soldier. Though he went into a little more detail than some of us were comfortable with, he did answer a question posed to him first.

Dillo, I erred by defining this particular post as strongly as I did and I apologize.

All, let's end this now. It's become too personal and too contentious and I don't want to see any more hurt feelings.
