With this government induce heat wave my husband and I have been in a self imposed exile in our house. Normally we would spend much of our time on our porch or out back on our patio, but are forced indoors outta the heat in our central airconditioned home. Last night we watched a VCR movie on TV, a comedy, called Shindler's List. What have the rest of you being doing to stay cool?

What is this "cool" you speak of? Is that some kind of new food?

It is hotter then hot here.

LOL!!

Today I made a substantial financial contribution to the local air conditioning company for a new 14 SEER Rheem heat pump (outdoor a/c unit). Then, I took the old unit to the metal recycler and exchanged it for some Federal Reserve Notes, then on to Walmart where I exchanged the FRN's for a large box of .40 S&W cartridges and a can of Break-Free CLP, then on to Fuzzy's Taco's for a large burrito and a schooner of Blue Moon beer.

It was horrible here in Ft. Wayne today, my thermometer recorded a high of 105 this afternoon. It was like a blast furnace outside. At a little after 6am it was already 80.

Here in the balmy northern Willamette Valley we were a blistering 70 today. We are having one of our coolest summers in years.

Cloud seeding only helps where there are clouds, especially a lot of clouds. Most of the areas affected by this heat wave don't have a cloud in the sky.

In Huntington it was also 106. Paddles stayed in air conditioning, and I gardened for 5 hours. Have to keep my veggies and flowers irrigated. We floated in our pond for several hours. We had a hot breeze all day and if I get all my clothes wet in the pond and let the wind dry me its natural air conditioning. It hits like a hammer though when I first go out. I have some extremely happy watermelons this year. We planted 20,000 hardwood trees this spring and i'm very worried about them.

Ya gotta feel sorry for the wildlife and farm animals. We do too.! We watched Jay Leno's monolog tonight and he has these questions telling how hot it is. My hubby said out loud that it was hotter than a fresh f**ked fox in a forest fire. Pretty good call!

Here in North Texas we have ranchers from as far away as Amarillo and Kansas bringing down their cattle to auction and that's depressing auction prices. Hay is high enough $$$ that it's cheaper to sell cattle for a low price than to feed the herd right now due to the pastures being burned out from lack of rain.

I live near Amarillo and work on a farm/ranch - things are tight for everyone but these Texans are a tough bunch that have dealt with difficult weather conditions their entire lives ... we'll make it !

It's so dry here in Houston that the amphibians around here got not place to mate. I dug two dozen of 'em out of my pool skimmers - big fat Texas brown toads - in there copulating and croaking, literally and figuratively in the chlorine. It was gross. My dog finds them chewy though I'm trying to break him of the habit.

Criminy, you win. I thought I was doin' pretty good putting in 16 this year (6 fruit trees and 10 Green Giant Arborvitae in a row for a windbreak in the winter and a sunshade in the summer).

It was already 80 this morning at about 6:00 again.

Looks like this oppressive heat is going to stick around only for another 48 though. High on Monday forecasted (which is all but worthless I realize) to be a cool and refreshing 90.

NE Oklahoma we are working on our 18th or 19th day of over 100 degree heat. Weather man said this morning that the 90 day outlooks is 100+ degree heat with little to no chance of moisture. I often wonder how they can be so accurate. Woke up at 5am this morning for the 9th morning in a row to over 85 degrees. Creeks are drying up and we have blue green algae growing everywhere.
