This morning, wife goes upstairs, to find a nice bullet hole through our window, and into the wall. We called the police. Two hours later they show up. They didn't bother with doing any ballistics. They didn't give a shit. They chalked it up to us living in a bad neighborhood. I know where the round came from. I know who shot at my house, as they told me there was some "Nice Shooting" the other night.

I explained to him that there's a Russian Proverb about poking a bear with a stick. Of course he didn't speak white English, or any Russian.

I've come to a crossroads folks. All I know is that you do not shoot at my house, and get away with it.

Exactly, calling the police just puts one on the radar screen of people that can and do more harm than good in too many cases.

We found the pussy 9mm round that came through the window, and hit the wall. There were plenty of lands and grooves on the round, because it didn't spall out. I had my confrontation today with two different cops, one with my lawyer present. I have concluded that at the end of our 5 and a half year sentence here, we will be moving. Unless I hit the lottery jackpot, We're stuck here a minimum of 5 and a half years.

The thing is, I'm not a coward. I do not run from anyone. People not standing up is what caused this problem to begin with. People have allowed this to go on, and on and on. It is far past time to put an end to this crap. I want my neighborhood to be safe, not only for me, but for everyone. I will stay and fight. There are good people here. There are honest people here. They are afraid. I am not.

If you live in a single-member district get to know your city councilman and ask for increased police patrols down your street. If that won't work, find the at-large city councilman who is perceived as a crime fighter and ask him for increased police patrols down your street. Ask your police to have their patrolmen catch up on their paperwork while parked on your street. Round up all the addresses in your neighborhood where the bad characters live and dump them in a detectives' lap. Work the system, sometimes it's all you've got.

I was told that this guy is bad news. I'm not scared for me. I'm concerned for my family. This is not a good place to be anymore.

Actually the exception. My block isn't bad. Go up 3 blocks to the west, and it's bad. Go north 4 blocks, it's bad. Go South 3 blocks, Bad. Go east, and it's actually not bad at all.

The problem is where I live. Had a bullet not come through my window, I would have been content to let the guy do what he does, so long as it does not affect me. But now he has done something stupid. I had the round to prove it. I imagine more rounds will head my way before the cops really intervene. I actually contacted my local ATF agent to see what could be done, since this was indeed an act of terrorism.

Waiting for a response.

Take it easy, Tommy. You sound like you're on the edge.

Like you wouldn't be on edge if someone shot at your house?

Tommy I am praying for you and your family. There are no safe places in America anymore. Criminals can and do travel to nice neighborhoods for loot and to sell drugs to kids. Sometimes the safest place to be is in a "bad neighborhood" because everyone figures you don't have anything worth taking or you wouldn't be living there.

If you absolutely know without a doubt who did it and the police won't take any action then I pray there will be a solution that won't be seen as revenge. You don't want to go to jail unless you have no choice.

God is always good!

But now he has done something stupid. I had the round to prove it.

Unless he voluntarily surrenders the firearm used (unlikely) or is arrested with it in his possession if there were no witnesses the gun may never be seized or tested.

It may be a reasonable assumption that "your guy" fired the shot but the simple truth is you don't know that it wasn't an impulsive homey of his who did it.

In short, don't look to the law for help with the bullet through your window. And if he turns up dead or suddenly in need of a colostomy bag (as was the case with a real bad hombre who tried to escape from prison here when a guard received permission to fire his Mini 14 in the dark in the last known direction of the escapee) you'll be the first person they visit and YOUR guns will be tested for a ballistic match.

And fifty cents worth of gasoline through a window at night can change your life and other things that I dare not even mention. Assuming that you do not want to go to prison or forfeit your life then you must accept that you cannot win against a dirtbag with little or nothing to lose. It's a pisser I know, but unless he actually presents the opportunity for a clean use of deadly force in self defense inside your home (you cannot walk down to the corner hangout thereby putting yourself in harm's way then claim self defense and expect to escape the justice system that refuses to protect you) then your best option is to get the Hell out. The cops have no sympathy for citizens who stand up to gangstas and then get themselves killed, any more than they would if someone decided to single handedly rid the state of venomous snakes and is bitten for his trouble.

It will come down to "screw right and wrong. How well do you perceive the potential danger to you and your family?" If a gangsta (that you challenged, perhaps by not breaking off in a staring contest) harms you or yours well, that's expected of him. But if you harm him in anger and without proper legal grounds you're supposed to know better and "rise above it" and you must be punished. And the minorities on your jury will see it just that way. Bet on it. ("Junior didn't know no betta, but you white an' you ain't supposed to victimize him!")

Sadly, this is how the system works. You are literally disadvantaged by the laws that apply only to you and not to a poor, underprivileged, third gen minority criminal whose understanding of the law is equal to the genetically-predisposed-to-violence-ape with the bone club in 2001-A SPACE ODYSSEY. If he goes to prison he'll get better food and health care than ever before (and all the whites he can rape) and due to overcrowding he'll be released after serving a fraction of his sentence. His rep will be boosted while prison would ruin your life and leave your family to fend for themselves. And to the cops any man with a gun (other than a merchant during a robbery) is the bad guy. They don't allow for a law abiding homeowner defending his life and property against armed criminals, especially if the cop was once a gangbanger himself. Unless you are clearly the victim you'll be portrayed as a white racist vigilante, and that makes you the real threat in a system dominated by non whites with only a rudimentary understanding of Anglo-American jurisprudence.

Thanks for all the concern folks. Should there come a day when I stop posting, I will probably be in the process of moving. To Texas. At least there I stand a better chance of correcting a problem and being rewarded for it, as opposed to being hamstrung by a bunch of passive aggressives.

I am going to run on the platform, that I will work for the people, for free, and I will maintain my business at the same time, so that I may serve at no expense. I have a stake in my area. I have a stake in my city, and be damned if I allow myself to be run out of my home by some piece of human trash, that thinks a bullet will scare me. A bullet through my window does not scare me. Losing what I care about does, and if you take away my security, I will go out of my way to ensure that you live in a perpetual state of worry. I do not forgive. Our society has tolerated crime, criminal gangs, and other bullshit for far too long, and it's time that we changed our society to accept nothing less than what is our personal best.

I have watched the decay of my country for the last 20 years, and this is not the nation I believed existed, and it is not the nation that I am willing to live in. It starts with one person bringing together likeminded people as a group, that will work together no matter the cost, or the odds, to fix something that is worth saving. If I cannot have a safe neighborhood as a private citizen, I will have it as someone with real power, and conviction. I CAN make a difference.

I've put the three people in my ward on notice, and challenged them to do better. They won't, but I will, and that will make all the difference.
