The Conservative Manifesto

Capitol Hill Blue
By DOUG THOMPSON
Oct 19, 2005, 05:58

Many plots exist around the world to overthrow The United States of America.

Some ferment in the caves of Afghanistan, others in terrorist hideouts throughout the Middle East and still more in the governments of North Korea, Iran and God-knows-where-else.

Yet the most dangerous threat to this country, to our very way of life, festers here at home, in the halls of Congress and the West Wing of the White House. It spills out daily in the rabid rhetoric of the extreme right wing – the conservative cabal whose goal is no less than total seizure of our government and complete domination of the lives of all Americans.

One only has to look at the bitter debate over President Bush’s nomination of White House Counsel Harriett Miers to see the conservative plan in action. The rabid right-wing demands proof that that Miers will vote to overturn Roe v Wade, the landmark case affirming a woman’s right to choose. Nothing less will do.

This is the extremist conservative mantra – absolute adherence to a narrow-focus agenda. Republicans demand that all members of their party march in lockstep. Anyone who departs even one little bit is labeled a “RINO,” (Republican in Name Only) and ostracized from the party.

Conservatives consider the Constitution an “outdated document,” a phrase used by current attorney general Alberto Gonzales in a memo justifying torture of prisoners and abuses of civil liberties under the USA Patriot Act, a rights-robbing law created by his predecessor, John Ashcroft, a Bible-thumping ex-Senator who lost re-election to a dead man and who, as both attorney general and governor of Missouri, was slapped down more than once by the State Supreme Court for refusing to enforce laws of that state, laws he said “violated the will of God.”

Underneath the bluster and propaganda, conservatives embrace an intolerant view of the world. Homophobia and racism runs rampant through the ranks of the right-wing. They preach homosexuality is a “crime against God.” They pay lip service to equality but stick to the racism that has dominated their beliefs since the days of slavery.

Right-wingers consider God one of their own. They invoke the deity’s name often, usually by misquoting the Bible or misconstruing a religious intent in a lame attempt to justify their actions. Bush even claims God told him to invade Iraq and says God has spoken to him – a vision that may be more the result of an alcohol-induced haze than any actual divine intervention.

They want religious dogma replacing scientific fact in school curriculums, demand that all Americans – even those who chose to exercise their freedom of religion by embracing other beliefs – to adhere to their fundamentalist view of the world and seek punishment of those who do not.

Conservatives want a public radio and TV network that reports slanted news from a right-wing point of view. Control of the media is always a first step in overthrowing a current system of government.

They want to give the FBI expanded powers to wiretap Americans without court order or oversight and they want to give the CIA the right to spy on Americans within the boundaries of the United States. By most reports, the CIA is already doing this but the right wing wants to make it the law of the land.

Again, such steps come straight from the government-overthrow handbook: Create a police state, keep tabs on a nation’s citizens. Karl Marx talked of such tactics in A Communist Manifesto. Adolph Hitler did the same in Mein Kampf.

Overt overthrow is not yet part of the Conservative Manifesto. Like Marx and Hitler, those who control the extreme right-wing elements of the Republican Party know that governments are best destroyed from within, by infiltration of the party politic, by using propaganda and fear to control the hearts and minds of the people.

Is it happening? Damn right it is. Take a hard look at life around you today. Do you enjoy the same freedoms you once enjoyed as an American? Are you safer? Is America safer?

Once you answer those questions, ask and answer another: Who took these things away from you? Osama bin Laden? Or the right-wing controlled government of the United States of America?

The only thing that makes me sad about this article is Doug doesn't seem to know who the real "right-wing" is. I consider a true right-winger somebody that wants the federal government to have only the power the Constitution outlines. Period. The Constitution is plain enough. Doug is buying the media line that the Bush cabal, Fox News, Limbaugh, etc. are the "right-wing." It's not true. Everything in politics with regard to meaning and value has been obliterated. The Constitution is not just trashed into toilet paper. It's dead. What's a right-winger? What's a conservative? What's an independent? What's a socialist? What's a communist? What's a progressive? What's a liberal? What's a neo-con? Some of what Doug is mentioning is being pushed by a one-world government totalitarian lefist communitarian fascist remnant made up of people like Bush, etc. Although Mortimer Snavely passed away not long ago, he was an excellent poster at FR. I've always kept one reply he made at FR because it so nicely summed up "the game" being played on us as citizens. The end result will be no future for our children and grandchildren. Just economic slavery and eventually destruction and death by government. His comments were as follows:

-----

Without an articulate leader aggressively advancing a well thought out, broad and detailed agenda, winning an election provides the opposition with breathing space while your candidate proves the criticisms the opposition made during their election campaign. You lose leverage against ideological enemies during your own term in office because of internal disagreements and aimlessness. At the same time, instead of getting stronger for future contests, your ideological and political strength gets undermined. Winning an election with an incompetent or compromising candidate is delayed suicide.

The worst thing that can happen is to win an election with someone who is reluctant or is unable to confront and refute your ideological enemy. It demonstrates that the enemy is basically correct and his premises are irrefutable. Ideological silence or ignorance gives the enemy a mantle of invulnerability, and tacitly grants permission upon the opposition. What is communicated is that the only thing your presidential candidate can do is meekly apologize in embarrassed silence for not adopting the ideology of the political left. Your supporters are betrayed, and find out that when they vote against the opposition they still have no voice. The Left remains the dominant political voice, continuing to set the parameters of debate, and creating the cultural icons which define a culture.

In later elections that image of invulnerability and that tacitly granted permission are used against you. The ideological incompetence of your weak previous office-holder is declared by the radical left opposition to be the wise and valid components of your party, while trying to correct that incompetence and ignorance is depicted as extremism. A capable new candidate in your party is mortally wounded at the start by having to spend as much time and effort refuting and reversing the ineptitude of the previous officeholder from his own party, as he does promoting his ideology. This gives the Left the opportunity to present your candidate as being a fringe radical within his own party for saying what the previous candidate or officeholder was too inept or unable to say.

While all this is going on, you find your own political party has become fly-paper for freaks, a comfortable resting place for weaklings, libertines, and trash who now have a home and promote and extend the addleheadedness and weakness of weak predecessors.

There is no such thing as a moderate position in politics where there is a radical left. Any time you move half way to accommodate the left, the left responds by moving further left, which then moves the center further left. In the last 40 years the middle ground has been moving leftward fast enough to make your head swim, as moderates and peacemakers ineptly pursue the lowest common denominator of mediocrity, which is set and reset by radicals, who are ever increasing in militancy. The leftist position of 40 years ago is now labelled right-wing extremism.

In the context of the liberal-socialist axis, selecting peacemakers and "nice guys" in politics is the equivalent of quitting a course of antibiotics fighting a nasty cut which is threatening to turn gangrenous. The infection gains strength unopposed, and your political party or next presidential candidate faces the future having lost a limb, or worse.

At this point, if anybody thinks Bush is a right-wing conservative is simply as blind as they get.
