BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong scientists announced that they had determined the idea of time travel is impossible by proving nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.

The finding is contained in a study done by a research team from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The study was published Monday in a scientific journal "Physical Review Letters" in the United States.

"The study, which showed that single photons also obey the speed limit c, confirms Einstein's causality, that is, an effect cannot occur before its cause," the university said on its website.

"By showing that single photons cannot travel faster than the speed of light, our results bring a closure to the debate on the true speed of information carried by a single photon." said Professor Du Shengwang, who led the study.

The possibility of time travel was raised 10 years ago when scientists discovered the optical pulses in some specific medium might propagate information in a faster-than-light speed.

"Our findings will also likely have potential applications by giving scientists a better picture on the transmission of quantum information." Du said.

The speculation that off-planet visitors are able to turn their spacecrafts at speeds and angles that should result in immediate "inertia death" but doesn't is supposedly because they've mastered inter-dimensional travel.

Until the "HK scientists" are able to experiment in this field they may want to withhold judgment.

They may be right in that time travel is not possible if only linear travel is utilized.

But, what if Madeleine L'Engle's "tesseract" (A WRINKLE IN TIME-1962) is the answer?

"Young people don't know that some things are impossible, and they accomplish it again and again."

This has to be one of the dumber news stories currently running....

I mean it is not exactly like time travel was possible before their magical declaration.

This is a total non news event....

What ever we do ,paying attention to things like the murdoch hacking scandal or the events in quartzsite or norway ...it is easy to do with lame distractionary non news like this...

BREAKING TIME TRAVEL IS IMPOSSIBLE

No shit.

Time travel is impossible because the site/era at your point of arrival would have to be reconstructed as it was if you're traveling into the past or prebuilt if going into the future. Not much point in chasing light beams which emanated from your point of interest because they would be absorbed /distorted along their path of travel.

So you're not John Titor who has been visiting us from the future?

That's what everyone who bought a lemon wormhole says.

Folks should go with a reputable dealer. Those purchased from flea markets in places like Madagascar are invariably inferior performing magic carpets.

Naw, I saw him yesterday and he's got scabies so he's not posting....or time traveling at the moment.

Good for them! I knew it anyway, but it is good that some scientists know this as well. Of course it is only impossible for us in this physical reality. It is not impossible for God.

God is always good!

Never said I was.

I do keep his namesake though because the story did change my life and for the better and it is full of things that are timeless and forever relevant.

That's about as impressive as the folks who have PROVEN that the earth is flat...

Scientific proof the Earth is flat!

Yep, those flat earthers should get together with those HK scientists, perhaps they can come up with some new astounding ideas of where the end of the earth really is.

As far as what I think, I'd say that unless a ship is built that can actually approach light speed, then there is no way of knowing for sure what happens at that speed and if the "light speed barrier" really does exists.
