I never had a Gremlin, but I did have a Pinto station wagon in the 80's. LOL! Here's a true story. I was living in Louisiana and drove over to Caddo Lake to meet some friends. It was about 50 miles from my house. The car started giving me trouble but I made it there. However, when it was time to leave, the car wouldn't work in any gear but reverse. So I drove all the way home in reverse! LOL! What an adventure that was!
LOL.....fifty miles in reverse! Was that the last trip for the Pinto wagon? My sister had a Pacer with three on the tree....nothing like driving around in a fish bowl. : )
No, it wasn't the last trip. A friend of mine rebuilt the transmission for me and I had it for a couple of more years. Later on, I moved down to New Orleans and eventually ended up in Slidell, LA., where I lost everything, to include the Pinto, in Hurricane Juan. By then it was broke down again anyway so it was no loss.
I used to stop at the Union 76 (?) truckstop on 1-10 all the time. Someone told me it got washed away. Do you know?
From my understanding, pretty much all of Slidell was washed away - literally. However, all I seen were newspaper reports. I moved away from there right after hurricane Juan. That was 1985. I've only been back there a handful of times since. I still know people down there but since Katrina I've never been able to get in touch with them and none of them have contacted me.
The Slidell Sentry-News is still up and running, so I'm guessing that the town is recovering.
