This is a very important program to hear for anybody interested in protecting and preserving private property rights. Today on Chris Gerners program, Amerikan Expose on Republic Broadcasting Network, the guest was Dan Byfield with the American Land Foundation. The subject was Mr. Byfields fight to save private property rights from the Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) who use environmental law to deprive owners of the use and value of their land.
Mr. Byfield originally got involved in the issue when he was hired by a land bank cooperative that was a lending institution of and for farmers and ranchers. The concern was how environmental issues were affecting property rights and the value of property that was being used as collateral for loans.
Mr. Byfield discussed several cases of how the environmental law and the endangered species act are being used to restrict or remove private property from private owners. One especially important issue he discussed was conservation easements that restrict the use of property in perpetuity making the landowner a mere serf on his own land.
