Well, yesterday Amazon UK reported its best sellers in the "sports and leisure" category. Many observers found the list quite shocking. You see, while the products are mainly used in sports, they can also be used as weapons. Take a look for yourself. This image represents the top three sellers as of yesterday, August 9: riot It's not a huge logical leap to believe that these bats and batons will end up in the hands of the current mob wreaking mayhem in England. The objects range from baseball bats and military police-style nightsticks... to shovels, tents and fire extinguishers. Amazon even deleted a product description attached to the number one selling product, a type of "baton," due to violent content. According to YahooNews: Escape ladders and fire extinguishers have seen a 2,655% and 1,320% jump. One cant help but feel a pang of queasiness at those implications. The rest of the Do It Yourself and Tools section is seeing similar spikes with rather ominous products. Also of note is the spike in memory card sales. SanDish 8GB 30MB/s Extreme HD Video SDHC Card has seen a spike of 2,156% in the last 24 hours. One has to assume that both rioters and riot-catchers are ensuring they dont run out of pictures. To put these stats into perspective, think about this: aluminum bat sales are up 6,541%! "This bat is perfectly weighted and will suit any UK shop-owner looking to protect their property," reviewer Harry Fish wrote about the suddenly popular Rucanor bat. "Thanks to the ergonomic handle, one easy swing should be enough to shatter patellas, skulls or any other bone on your targeted looter." The surging sales of those very same objects here in the U.S. this past week, in cahoots with a panicking public in lieu of this week's crazy stock market fluctuations, an anti-climatic economic stimulus from the Fed, and increasing uncertainty can only mean one thing: The panic across the pond could easily be on its way here.
