My Craigslist ad for buying junk US silver is still working well.

I bought about $30 face value the last couple of days at 25 times face, which was about 3 times face below spot price.

My ad reads:

Buying Junk US 90% Silver Coins - $25

Will pay 25 times face value for 1964 and older 90% silver US coins.

Have $500 cash to spend at the moment. Offer ends when cash runs out.

Call anytime: 555 555 5555

I use www.coinflation.com/coins/silver_coin_calculator.html to determine current value per dollar face value by calculating value of four Washington quarters. Then I subtract three dollars or so and make that my offer price.

When I placed my last ad, coinage was worth $28 or so per dollar face, so I set my price at $25. I now also post how much I am looking to spend at the moment to keep people with much larger quantities from calling. Sometimes people want to sell me $1000 face value, if you can believe it. I just don't have that much cash laying around.

Next time I do it, I am going to try $4 or $5 below actual face value and see if I get any hits. Subscribe to *SHTF - Survival*

I post under "Items Wanted".

I have never had any problem spending all I have available. The only problem I ever had was having to say I have no more cash. :)

~ you're offering them a better deal than local buyers near me, at best you might get 45% from these folks ...

back when I played with silver a lot, the price was set at 5-7% of spot for the exchange, local buyers here scoffed at the idea, said their hands were tied

I used to buy rolls of silver on ebay and I thought I was doing well if I could get them at spot, including shipping. I have to buy relatively small lots, since I'm not a rich man by any stretch, and one roll at a time on ebay was about the best I could do.

Then I got the idea to try and buy on craigslist. It has worked well, but I am going going to keep trying to fine tune it to the point where I can pay as little as possible and still get what I want.

Next ad will be $4 or $5 below spot, and I'll keep lowering my offer each time until I get no hits, then go back to last effective level. :)

Is there any market for 1965 - 1969 US quarters & halves?

Not yet, but selling used tires helps me meet a lot of them. :)

Not yet to that either. I search for some though.

None that I know of. 65 - 70 Kennedy halves are 40% silver and have a market though.

I sold all my maples when silver closed in on $50 a while back. Got a good premium. :)

None that I know of. 65 - 70 Kennedy halves are 40% silver and have a market though.

Several months back, at a a coin show in Round Rock, TX a dealer was paying $1.00 per quarter from 65 to 69 or 70.

I've been pulling them out of circulation ever since.

; )
