Title: Cops Confiscate Cameras at Ohio Congressman’s Town Hall

A congressman from Ohio had cops grab the cameras of constituents during a town hall meeting. Steve Chabot, a Republican, had cell phones and cameras confiscated in order to “prevent an embarrassing Youtube video from making the rounds,” according to Carlos Miller, who runs a blog documenting efforts by the state to stifle the First Amendment rights of photographers.

See video of the incident below.

Police said the cameras were taken “to protect the constituents.” A local television station, however, was allowed to videotape the meeting and the brazen move by Chabot and the cops.

Think Progress, the Soros-funded media operation, also reported the incident, primarily because Chabot is an establishment Republican and protesters outside the event called for more taxes. The Democrat blog reported:

Media were permitted to record the event, making the ban on citizen cameras all the more baffling. Clearly no “security” threat existed; rather, as one of Chabot’s staffers told ThinkProgress, they wanted to “prevent” people from “making a show” of the event. Indeed, Chabot and his staff were worried enough about citizens voicing their anger at his policies that they only accepted pre-screened questions chosen by the congressman’s staff.

This should not be perplexing – the controlled corporate media can be trusted to not embarrass Rep. Chabot, at least not on points that matter, while citizens cannot.

It is also interesting that Think Progress attributes the current economic implosion to Chabot and the Republicans when Democrat Obama is in the White House and allegedly in control.

In fact, neither Obama or the Republicans control the economy. It is controlled by a Federal Reserve that has doubled the monetary base since last August.

David Locke says:

I’d like to have seen a citizen’s arrest right there. The cops stole a phone and a camera, both of them worth over $100. That’s grand larceny. Advise the cop that he’s committed a felony and that you don’t want to have to add “resisting arrest” to the charges. If he offers to give the phone back. tell him he’s sure as heck going to give the phone back, and the judge might appreciate that, but he’s still committed a felony, and he’s still under arrest. Be a nice guy, and let him radio for a replacement for the meeting, but then take him away.

Apparently to avoid potentially embarrassing confrontations many members of Congress are avoiding Town Hall meetings, opting instead for $$/plate dinners.

And if Mr. Locke survives his beatdown he can tell us all about how it worked out for him to put a member of the gang under arrest when several of his armed buddies were standing around "to protect and serve" (their own).

Democracy is so inconvenient to fascists like this congress critter they are willing to risk law suits and the appearence of fascism by muzzling their constituents. I predict he will stop holding public meetings like this one rather then give in dispite all pressure to.

A few people on board have begun to pick up a slight hiss in the background, to observe a faint haze of mist in the air or on their glasses, to note that the river current seems to be running slightly faster. But no one yet seems to have realized that it is almost too late to head for shore." -- Historian and author Chalmers Johnson"

Chabot

I actually called his DC office - his Cincinnati office's phone was off the hook - and told the young receptionist that Chabot's behaviour would have made Stalin and Hitler proud. There was a mild to moderate gasp, and then I told her she should consider a job change because working for a man like him isn't what I consider a good resume boost (except in DeeCee). And yes, I did ID myself correctly and I don't really give a shit any longer about hiding anonymously in cyberspace.

when the town hall meetings are only accepting pre-screened questions it is time for the public to cancel said meeting and let it be known as to why they are leaving. let the politicians stand in an empty building to talk to them self.

as the brain dead dais poser is flapping their gums a slight rumble can be felt, as it grows the rumble becomes an inaudible word soon it becomes a clear chant; douche, douche, douche, douche, douche, douche, douche...

I am not clear on what gaff Chabot was hoping to keep bottled up by confiscating videos, but .... his heavy-handed attempt to cover up even a glaring gaff is itself an overwhelmingly bad image that the voters will remember.

good for you. you should start a youtube channel telling what you think about all these a-hole cop stories, from a cops perspective. I bet it would be pretty popular.

do you think this is worthy of a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of the people whos property was taken at this public meeting? And if so, i have a follow up question.
