WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush said on Saturday that his proposed guest worker program was an essential component of a plan to stem the flow of illegal immigration into the United States.

Bush this week signed a Homeland Security Department spending bill that included funds to toughen border security and increase enforcement of immigration laws.

"As we improve and expand our efforts to secure our borders, we must also recognize that enforcement cannot work unless it's part of a comprehensive immigration reform that includes a temporary worker program," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

"If an employer has a job that no American is willing to take, we need to find a way to fill that demand by matching willing employers with willing workers from foreign countries on a temporary and legal basis," he said.

Bush said he would work with Congress to create a program that would address U.S. labor needs without granting amnesty to illegal immigrants.

Bush's proposal has raised concerns among some of his fellow Republicans in Congress who worry that the plan would reward undocumented workers already in the country by allowing them to qualify for the program.

Immigration has also been a sore spot in U.S.-Mexican relations. Easing U.S. immigration restrictions for Mexican workers has been a top priority for Mexican President Vicente Fox since he took office in 2000.

Poster Comment:

So Chertoff has stated they're going to eject all illegals.. SO it seems they will name all the illegals in the US as guest workers.. with an identification program with is exactly what is called for in the FTAA.

"If an employer has a job that no American is willing to take, we need to find a way to fill that demand by matching willing employers with willing workers from foreign countries on a temporary and legal basis," he said.

And there's the "BIG LIE" once again. Here's the truth of the matter: There is NO SUCH THING as a "job that no American is willing to take", there are only jobs that fail to pay enough to be attractive to American workers. If those employers would offer higher wages they would have no trouble attracting workers, but since they want to pay third world wages for hard jobs, they need to bring in third world workers to do them.

Those who hire illegals are TRAITORS! Those who push for illegal immigration are TRAITORS! Those who apologize for illegals are TRAITORS! This administration is guilty of TREASON!

I absolutely agree.. The illegals have driven down wages and companies that will not hire illegals at a lower rate can't compete.. they lose contracts etc.. of course this is purposeful...

This is such a huge lie that it is really a joke IMHO and you are correct, any employer who hires illegal aliens should suffer serious consequences.

It is easy to check out whether they are a citizen and any excuse the PTB use is also a joke intended for those of us with limited intellectual abilities.

Problem is...statistically, higher IQ people tend to be more reserved in their approach to life. Hence, not much of a threat, so their propaganda need not be geared to us so much.

Now check out this story which seemingly contradicts the guest worker program.. of course it doesnt..what IS an illegal immigrant? Not one that has a guest worker card..

US to crack down harder on illegal immigrants

WASHINGTON : US President George W. Bush signed a new budget for the US Homeland Security department that sharply boosts funding to fight illegal immigration, as the department's head said they would now expel without exception all illegal immigrants.

The bill totalled 30.8 billion dollars in discretionary spending, 1.8 billion dollars higher than the current year's budget.

Of the total, 7.5 billion dollars is committed to fight the rising number of illegal immigrants in the country.

"We've got to strengthen security along our borders to stop people from entering illegally," Bush said.

"We're going to make this country safer for all our citizens," he said.

The government will also make stronger efforts to search out and deport illegal immigrants already in the country, Bush said.

"We must improve our ability to find and apprehend illegal immigrants who have made it across the border," he said.

"We've got to work to ensure that those who are caught are returned to their home countries as soon as possible."

Bush's statement followed comments by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff earlier Tuesday that his department aims to expel all illegal immigrants without exception.

"Our goal at DHS (Homeland Security) is to completely eliminate the 'catch and release' enforcement problem, and return every single illegal entrant, no exceptions," Chertoff told a Senate hearing.

"It should be possible to achieve significant and measurable progress to this end in less than a year," he said.

The Homeland Security budget includes 2.3 billion dollars for the US Border Patrol, and millions of dollars for increasing and improving border fences and technological surveillance. The increased budget will enable the government hire 100 more immigration department agents and 250 investigators.

Prison space will be expanded by about 10 percent, or 2,000 beds, to accommodate the expected increase in apprehensions of illegal immigrants who are not Mexicans.

Chertoff told senators that currently a non-Mexican illegal immigrant caught trying to enter the United States across the southwest border has an 80 percent chance of being released immediately because of the shortage of holding facilities.

"We are moving to end this 'catch and release' style of border enforcement by reengineering our detention and removal process," Chertoff said.

Bush meanwhile explained a separate strategy for Mexicans, who comprise by far the largest number of illegal immigrants in the country.

Rather than just forcing captured immigrants back over the border, under a new program called "Interior Repatriation", the US will fly or bus Mexican illegal immigrants all the way back to their hometowns.

"Many of these folks are coming from the interior of Mexico, and so the farther away from the border we send them, the more difficult it will be for them to turn around and cross right back into America," Bush said.

"By returning Mexicans to their homes, far away from desert crossing, we're helping to save lives," he said.

Chertoff's remarks in favour of returning "every illegal entrant, no exceptions" raised questions of an apparent conflict with the US policy toward illegal Cuban immigrants.

Though Cubans picked up at sea heading for US shores are returned to their country, those who reach US soil by any means are allowed to stay and work - a policy Cuba says encourages dangerous attempts to get into the United States. - AFP /ch

IF he keeps talking this way his poll numbers will continue to drop. I suspect an under 30% approval rating is a real possibility.

There is no God speaking through George Bush. Let me tell you something...

If God were to choose to speak through anything, he'd likely choose to speak through a housecat, than any appointed politician. Cats always speak the truth. Politicians always lie, no matter what the topic is.

In this particular case. Bush is likely hallucinating or hearing voices from AIPAC or some other netherworldly cabal. God does not speak to anyone on this planet. If he did, he'd speak to everyone, and be truly pissed off at the fact that the people in the highest positions of authority, are so perverse, twisted and evil.

You want change in America? Invade Mexico. If there's a country that needed to be liberated from the clutches of evil, it's Mexico. They've had the same corruption since before the Spaniards ever got there. Regime Change FOR MEXICO NOW!!!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the poll numbers after the indictments.. now that'll be interesting.. If Bush cared about what the people thought and was protecting the country as a president should, he'd not be proposing this nonsense.. nor would he have attacked Iraq.. or go after Iran and Syria.. but of course he isnt working for the people.. The agenda has nothing to do with us whatsoever.

Hey that's more like it.. but then again maybe he worships AIPAC and when he says he's doing God's work maybe he actually means AIPAC? :P

AND that's more like it.. instead of Mexicans taking what they think is Atzlan.. we need to take the Mexico.. sounds like a plan to me.. They certainly want to be free just like the Iraqis did.. they want democracy! Great plan! :P
