I'll be happy with anyone BUT Ron Paul. His ideas are a danger to this country. With him as president we'd be speaking Arabic and Hispanic and our wives and daughters would be wearing burkas by the end of his term

Sounds like that idiot Obama saying he doesn't speak Austrian. WTF is "Hispanic"? I always thought it was Spanish. Maybe his wife and daughters would be wearing burkas but I don't know why anyone else would be, not unless they were already Muslims.

WTF is "Hispanic"?

I don't know the etymology of the word, but generally let's say you're referring to someone, instead of saying 'that Mexican guy', Since that is a generalization- he could actually be from el salvador, peru, cuba, spain, puerto rico, guatemala, etc. So, :

so in todays usage, the terms hispanic or latino/a is an umbrella term for people from north, central, or south america, or maybe europe. basically anyone mowing lawns, running from police, spraypainting grafiti, or eating tacos. just kidding. :)

To me the term Hispanic used by Mexicans is funny. Why would people, most of whom have probably never been to Spain and only know of Spain because of being conquered by Spain call themselves Hispanic? It would make about as much sense for our native Americans to call themselves Genoans (Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Republic of Genoa which is present day Italy).

(contd) i still do that sometimes, but have to stop myself b/c i have no idea who is mexican unless i verify it.Latino is another general term used (aka latin america).

ive never heard mexicans from mexico refer to themselves as hispanic. i was just explaining the usage of the term in u.s. to describe a wide variance of people from several continents. to characterize them all as mexican is actually not accurate at all.I
