Gee, you have to go back to 1994 to find Romney being polite to gays. And his "pandering" was just the mildest of mild: support for an anti-discrim statute that already had overwhelming support in the Congress, and support for the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy which gays considered a betrayal by Clinton.

So? Are you saying or trying to imply that his position now is any different than it was then? And what "gays" wanted then, what they want now, is not equal rights but special rights. They already had the right to get married, even back in 94 if they could find a straight person of the opposite sex who would marry them. Marriage, as an institution, has always been a committed relationship between one man and one woman. You can be civil and "polite" to anyone without pandering to them and telling them, in effect, that it is ok for them to destroy the culture.
