This seems to be a contradiction to me. Direct democracy and non-participation are opposites. Democracy by its own definition says that it IS direct participation.
Though when asked by the press, "Mr.Franklin, what have you given us?" Franklin responded, "A Republic, IF you can keep it." ;)
