During his weekly appearance on WOR-AM radio, Bloomberg stated, We will start enforcing that more, with reference to regulations requiring permits for marches and rallies. In response to the mayor's remarks, OWS media coordinator Thorin Caristo issued a statement charging that his inability to create a clear and definitive opinion or position on OWS just shows he's being tossed around like a bird in a storm. We all know what that storm is, that storm is the growing concern in the higher factions of Wall Street, that this movement might actually be making a difference. The mayor's statements sound hardline and I have no doubt he may actually try to enforce those, the statement continued. But we all know that every time excessive police force is used in this situation the movement grows exponentially. Rawstory FACTS & FIGURES The Occupy Wall Street demonstration began on September 17 in New York and has spread to over 1,400 cities in the U.S. with police harshly cracking down on protestors and arresting many of them. On September 24, about 80 people were arrested as demonstrators who were camped out near the New York Stock Exchange marched through lower Manhattan, police said. Wtoc On October 1 in New York, more than 700 people from the Occupy Wall Street protest movement were arrested on Brooklyn Bridge. On October 9 in Iowa, 32 people were arrested while participating in an Occupy protest on public land. Rawstory On October 10 in Boston, more than 50 protesters from the Occupy Boston movement were arrested. Wtoc On October 12 in San Francisco, police arrested nearly 15 protesters outside of Wells Fargo bank for blocking the doors and allegedly trespassing. Huffington Post On October 13 in Los Angeles, 11 protesters were arrested at a Bank of America location downtown, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Nbclosangeles On October 16 in Chicago, police arrested about 175 protesters in an operation to clear the city's Grant Park of demonstrators camping out in protest against corporate greed. Raw Story On October 21 in New York, police arrested about 30 protesters including veteran civil rights activist Cornel West during a demonstration by the Occupy Wall Street movement.
